Haunting, eclectic mix of very listenable pieces,

This review is from: Poison of the Sea (Audio CD)
After listening to this collection of songs a couple of times, I set my 6-CD changer in my car to 'Repeat One Disk' so that I could soak it up a few more times, untarnished and uninterrupted by anyone else's homogenous sounds. Patria's music is best heard when you're in the frame of mind to hear 'art' instead of the slickly-produced numbers that are meant to make CD's fly off the shelves. Then again, I'm the type of person that refuses to put anything other than original artworks on the walls of my house. No prints, reproductions, etc. These songs are alternately haunting (music and lyrics) and humerous, with lyrics so original that you insist on hearing them again just to get the impulses in both halves of your brain coordinated. Ms. Jacobs can swivel from torch song diva to modern country comedienne at the snap of a finger, and I enjoy the mood swings.

I had the opportunity to see Patria Jacobs play live in Los Angeles last month and the performance was fantastic! Great lyrics and beautiful melodies...coolest new music I've heard in awhile.
