More About the Author

James Wm. Lewis grew up on a small farm in the lead mining area of southern Missouri, graduating from high school in Carl Junction in 1964.

Lewis experienced the Tri-State Lead Mining District described in POISONED! The Doctor's Dilemma, recently designated as multiple EPA Cleanup Sites. The EPA condemmned the entire town of nearby Pitcher, Oklahoma, stating the area may collapse as a result of extensive undermining. For over twenty years, Lewis personally witnessed the pollution, medical problems including severe lead retardation, and poverty caused by toxic lead, polluted well water and sulfur gas emissions from lead mining and smelting.

James Wm. Lewis also served 13 years in federal prison, from 1982-1995.

Lewis studied at Missouri Southern Junior College and the University of Missouri-Kansas City for 6 years. In 2001, Lewis, now a fine artist and illustrator, graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachussetts.

Lewis is a computer programmer, website developer and photographer.

He is an avid long distance runner, despite his age, and enjoys rugged, solitary hikes on the Appallachian Trail.

Lewis has been married for over forty years.
