Book Description

"Number 1 Amazon best-seller"

Ben Coulter's first novel is heartbreaking at times, humorous at others, and a hard and gritty epic throughout. Poisoned Saints takes you inside the growing drug epidemic in the UK, with first hand experience and unapologetic detail from the author. Saints takes you on a journey of mystery and suspense, whilst keeping you company with true-to-life drama and facts along the way. Get prepared for an exhilarating ride into what's really going on outside your door, but be warned, once you start reading you will not be able to stop.

Charlie is a cocaine distributor living in a run-down London overspill, but when he discovers his top dealer shot to death, Charlie must find the killer and a way out, whilst losing the tail of Detective Jack Cloud in order to flee the country with his lover and a clear conscience .

"Loved it from the minute I started it. Had me gripped the whole way through. Did not want this to end could have read this forever..."

When ambitious yet troubled Drug Dealer Charlie Paccadillo discovers one of his top cocaine distributors mysteriously shot to death, his world is thrown into disarray. Alice, an unassuming single mother with connections to a rival crew of dealers, soon becomes his only release from the angst, as he searches for answers and battles to control his crumbling criminal empire.

As DI Jack Cloud investigates the murder in the gritty London overspill town of Stambro, Charlie quickly becomes his chief suspect. Looking to solve his first shooting, career driven Jack will stop at nothing to get the job done.

Can Charlie find a way out or is he in too deep to turn back? Will Jack find the real killer? The clock is ticking and the pressure's on, every decision counts in a world where life is cheap and reputation is king. The street is always watching and no one, detective nor gangster, can afford to lose.

5 out of 5 stars "Raw, honest and a real page turner."

"This is a great first offering from the author. Fast moving with a number of interesting sub-plots and great characterisations, this is a book I didn't put down once. From start to finish you want to know more. More about the characters, the story and the setting. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who likes modern-day, gritty, crime thrillers."

5.0 out of 5 stars

"Excellent book, very well put together. It is fast paced, action packed, with characters you will instantly relate to.

Best book I have read this year.

I am looking forward to the next book from this author."

5 out of 5 stars "A definate must read!"

"What a fantastic book, it had everything! fast paced, characters you loved, characters you hate. I loved the way it was written and the way that you immediately identified with the characters and how their story unfolded. I could not put it down - I can not wait for a sequel."

4.0 out of 5 stars Gritty and Raw November 23, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just finished Poisoned Saints by Ben Coulter and I must say it was quite a roller coaster ride. For starters I’m an American and had no idea there was a drug problem in the UK. I loved the dialect and the conversations between the characters were certainly easy to follow in spite of the differences. I had to like the “bad boys” because, well, they are likeable anti-heroes. In fact I preferred Charlie and his mates to Detective Jack Cloud. It’s a good story with a solid plot and if you like mysteries you’ll enjoy it. If you’re offended by swearing, drugs, and sex you probably won’t like it at all. I found the language and behavior made the story more real and fit in with the characters. (But I’m still amazed there are gangs and drug dealers in the UK.)

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as the other reviews make it seem March 14, 2013

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The book is not poorly written, but it is far from a great piece of literature. The plot is straightforward and easy to follow throughout, but the ending is anti-climactic. Several Deus Ex Machina come together to solve the central puzzle that lingers throughout the novel, namely, who shot Harry?

The book does succeed in creating likeable anti-heroes, but the ending is so abrupt that it undoes many chapters of hard work setting it up. After completing it, I kept tapping my kindle page to see if there was more.

If you like gratuitous sex and drugs in your reading, then this book would be fine to pick up for a superficial quick read, but don't expect anything deep. It tries to tread into a dark area, but ultimately fails to captivate. Too many dark issues (suicide, drugs, incestuous rape) are glazed over with little attention to really make the point the author was aiming for.

I would only recommend it if you can find a cheap or free copy. I got it for free on my kindle, which is the only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a read for UK crime fans September 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A great story with a realistic feel. I really enjoyed the characters and dialogues Ben Coulter created and finished this in no time at all. As one other said, Ben creates a group of likeable anti-heroes whose side you find yourself taking despite their illegal activities. I can understand some non-English readers who found some of the dialogue hard to follow but added to the realism. A good easy read.

2.0 out of 5 stars A difficult read May 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read a lot and don't generally mind a book written with localized dialect, but this book had characters who were too difficult for me to understand. Yes, I'm rating a book I didn't finish. I liked the initial plot but it was so hard to wrap my mind around the English slang that I just had to put it aside. Be prepared if you want to read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful look inside London's gang world December 20, 2012
By chris
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It kept me interested although at times I was put off by the explicit language. The ruthlessness with which these drug lords eliminate their competitors and others so frequently and in such cold blood is frightening but is expertly captured in a raw and unapologetic manner. Definitely couldn't wait to find out what happens at the end!
