Product Description

Editorial Review

More than an electronic pet, this virtual Pikachu is an exercise buddy and power charm. When strapped to an owner's belt loop, Pikachu actually monitors movements, such as walking, running, and jumping. (The natural bouncing motion tallies points.) These points translate into watts--a valued power source--and can be given as a present to Pikachu, in which case the little Pokémon goes wild with glee and performs tricks. Or the watts can be given to another 2 GS or Game Boy unit by sending them through an infrared portal. (Watts can be applied to Pokémon Gold and Silver games.) Owners can also accumulate watts by winning games in the 2 GS unit. There is also a Friendship Status Screen: as in a real friendship, owners have to share their watts and play with Pikachu in order to keep the friendship strong. --Hannah Reynolds

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the first version!, October 26, 2000

The sounds are better and more complex, you can adjust the color and Pikachu is doing more stuff to entertain you. The Pedometer is more precise and the fact that you can give or received watts is good to teach us about sharing! the colors is also good it makes Pikachu more real, the only thing i would like to hear is a little "Pika Pika" from Pikachu !:) maybe in the version 3 :)

This toy is adorable! I am a 25 year-old pokemon addict, so of course I bought the Pikachu 2 as soon as I could find it. The directions that accompany the product are very good, so it was easy to set Pikachu up and start playing. The animation is great, I love watching Pikachu go through his daily activities, and you can play with him by giving him watts. You build up watts by walking, running, climbing stairs, etc. Pikachu is not happy unless he has A LOT of watts, so it this toy is a great exercise motivator. (And for other adult Pikachu lovers, this thing is great because it looks like you are wearing a pager!) There are only two drawbacks to the Pikachu GS 2: first, the mechanism which measures your activity rattles when you move (this is annoying!), and second, Pikachu keeps drastically different hours than I do. I am a law student, so I get up around 10:00 am, and go to bed about 2:00 am. Pikachu gets up at 7:00 am promptly and is in bed by 9:00 pm. I realize that parents probably don't want their kids getting up at 3:00 am to see what Pikachu is doing, but I wish there was some way to change his schedule to suit mine! Overall, however, I love my Pikachu pet and recommend this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% better than original!, February 21, 2001

This review is from: Pokemon Pikachu 2 (Toy)
I loved my old Pokemon Pikachu virtual buddy. He went with me just about everywhere, my cherished adult "secret" which only a few close friends knew about (I'm 36 if that tells you anything!) Anyway, I got the new one and while I still wear my old Pikachu when jogging or working out (the BEST way to rack up watts, especially on a 6-mile run) the new colors, sounds and the chance to play a version of Blackjack rather than the "slot machine" game on the previous Pikachu really won me over.

But brother ... DO NOT get Pika mad at you on this one. It's even WORSE trying to get him to like you again and, until he does, he calls you "MEANIE" ... most likely with full justification. :)

A great Pikachu toy for anyone - plus for me, it encourages me to work out because I know that if I don't, Pika might get mad ... (Hey, whatever works, right?)
