I really enjoy these books, the tv series in comparison sucks entirely. I can't wait for the next set to come out.

This selection will keep your kids entertained and quietly reading for hours. The only thing to keep in mind is that it uses the Japanese direction of printing so they read it from "front" to "back".

This is a pokemon manga set that any true pokemon fan must own. It not only gives you a full set for less than list price, but it gives you a complex story that is much better than the anime series. The story is much darker and is a great read for anyone of any age group that is a fan of pokemon.

First of all let me say that I love this manga. It's a great choice for anyone who is either looking for a children's series for their kid, or is a Pokemon fan wanting to experience a world that feels much more dramatic than the anime.

I have to say, however, that I have some issues with Viz Media's release. One complaint is that it's annoying how two characters' names are switched. For anyone who doesn't know, in the Japanese version the male rival of Red is named Green and the girl who owns a Squirtle is named Blue. In the English version their names are switched so Green is the girl and Blue is the boy. I know that this was done originally to "match" the games (where the original versions released in the US were Red and Blue) but now that it's been over a decade since the games first came out, I think it'd be better to leave them as they are.

I also don't like how Viz Media's translation includes censorship. There is a scene in one of the later volumes of this box set where Crystal's mother is introduced and she slaps her daughter. In the English version this is (badly) painted over and edited into her simply looking angry at her daughter. I understand that they want to make it more "child appropriate" and not show an abusive mother in a children's series but I disagree with it. The edited version looks bad and doesn't make any sense, not only that, it removes an important aspect of Crystal's character.
This isn't the only scene that is censored in this translation of the manga. There are others in the Ruby and Sapphire arc regarding the same issue, where Ruby is physically mistreated by his father Norman, changed into "an accident".

The story is quite exciting, and certainly allow every pokemon fan to experience the nostalgia of the world of pokemon . . .

This box set gives u more value for your money than buying the volumes separately, and also comes along with a small poster.

Comments by Daven O'Brien (age 9) - These were amazing and a nice twist to the masked man who is someone you would not expect. Check out the type of pokemon the person uses. It will give you a clue. Read it to find out!

My son is dyslexic and it is hard to get him to do any independent reading but, he loves Graphic novels. Compared to buying each book separately, this is a fantastic value. Also, book store doesn't alway have the "next" book in the series in stock. Yes, I still buy books especially, Manga or graphic novels for my boys.
