By A Customer
This review is from: Pokemon Graphic Novel, Volume 1: The Electric Tale Of Pikachu! (Pokemon (Viz Paperback)) (Paperback)
Something is eating the wires in the Ketchums' house. Soon Ash Ketchum finds Pikachu inside his wall. After seeing his rival, Gary Oak, he decides to become the world's greatest Pokemon Master! This is a great comic that is (in my opinion) a lot better than the TV show.It is very funny! the reasons to buy this book: 1. It's funny! 2. It is different from the show! 3. The artwork is awesome! 4. You won't regret buying it because you'll want to read and enjoy it again and again! 5. IT'S POKEMON!

I find the pokemon tv series childish and wasn't sure If I'd like the manga but I saw the artwork was good so I said, Why not?It turns out this book is not really like the tv series. Ash's mom and prof. oak look totally different and ash finds pikachu in this manga. He also catches different pokemon and there lots of fun humor too. This book has great art! the pokemon look so life like! I really recomend this book!

A Great manga, with a different appearence...,

This review is from: Pokemon Graphic Novel, Volume 1: The Electric Tale Of Pikachu! (Pokemon (Viz Paperback)) (Paperback)
This manga is pretty good, but all the characters looking diferent...Brock, Ash,Jessie, James, and Misty look pretty much the same, but minor character such as Ash's mom, Bill, and Professor Oak get a serious makeover...I couldn't stop laughing after I saw Professor Oak, he looks nothing like the anime guy, seeing these makeovers alone justify giving this manga a chance....^_~

It's pretty much the same thing as the comics except it has all four issues of the electric tale of pikachu. It also has the cover art in the back. But it's better than buying all four issues. You can just buy one book instead of looking for all four. It's very funny on top of that.

Poke'mon = GREAT!,
By John (Pennslyvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pokemon Graphic Novel, Volume 1: The Electric Tale Of Pikachu! (Pokemon (Viz Paperback)) (Paperback)
I have all 4 of these books. I think they are cool, but it is not well based on the real Poke'mon. Like, for instance, in number 3, Ash battles Brock and wins EASILY, but Pikachu would have been weak against Onix and the Geodudes. And in number 1, Ash finds Pikachu under the floorboards! Really, Ash gets Pikachu from Proffeser Oak! But still, these are cool book!

Controversy and censorship,
This review is from: Pokemon Graphic Novel, Volume 1: The Electric Tale Of Pikachu! (Pokemon (Viz Paperback)) (Paperback)
This manga is perhaps the most controversial Pokémon manga ever published, due almost entirely to the fact that the original Japanese version of the manga series had a lot of sexual content, including women such as Misty, Jessie and the Sensational Sisters given oversized busts, often accompanied by skimpy clothing or swimwear. In order to make the series marketable to younger English-speaking readers, much of this was censored during VIZ Media's translations and all of the sexual content was taken out, leading to a "cleaner" version of the manga for international readers. In Chuang Yi's translation, only the first volume is based on the VIZ Media's censored version. Subsequent volumes are based on the original Japanese version and are not censored.
One scene in particular that was heavily edited was when Ash battles Misty for the Cascade Badge in Play Misty For Me. In the original, Misty wears a very revealing swimsuit, which is completely redrawn as a wetsuit in the English version. There was one scene that was removed altogether from the English version. It is the original ending of To Evolve or Not to Evolve, That Is the Question!. This scene was set in a hot spring, and it pictured a naked Misty (with Pikachu) relaxing and washing herself, making a comment about how her chest should evolve, too. All of a sudden, Ash, Mikey and Brock are seen sitting in another hot spring, and they see Misty washing herself. Misty, noticing their presence, is extremely embarrassed and feels very violated; and she runs away in anger. This scene was likely deleted due to excessive nudity and the adult nature of the scene. This scene, however, is not removed from Chuang Yi's version.

The drawings in this manga are in my opinion much better than the TV series or in any other manga I have read. The characters seem a bit more realistic and many sections are very funny.

Pokemon Manga is Great!,
This review is from: Pokemon Graphic Novel, Volume 1: The Electric Tale Of Pikachu! (Pokemon (Viz Paperback)) (Paperback)
Don't think that this GN is like the TV show that thousands of kids are sucked into. The manga is sooooo much better and realistic than the TV show (or the video game, or the TV show-based comics). The drawings are absolutly great (check out the Gyrados and Haunter) and slightly more mature than any other Pokemon merchandise I've seen. This comes from a 15-year old who can't stand anything else Pokemon!

For the Pikachu inside all of us!,

Sometimes, maybe there is a thing called maybe it could go on and on. This was the start of everything. The episodes that brought on the next series of adventure, it is like Power Ranger, it never ends this way, and it never ends that a way either. It makes you want to draw out all the Pokémons and make you go Pictionary Pokémon, or just belch out all the Pokémon is alphabetical order. It is kind of more Japanese and true to the form of making it more for children than the ones on TV, where Ash looks like a beef up version of Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was a teen and with a mouse for a pet. If you could bear in mind, imagine it. Also, it makes Pikachu so much more cuter than Ash, which was what I like to see. Though, in the book, it seemed to cool the idea that Pokémon could be animals we have on our planet, but more of the imaginary animals we come up with. So, it is a little fluffy. And more twisted that way.

This review is from: Pokemon Graphic Novel, Volume 1: The Electric Tale Of Pikachu! (Pokemon (Viz Paperback)) (Paperback)
My daughter had a copy of this when she was little and it got lost. She always wanted another one and I finally figured out I could get it on Amazon.
I wasn't sure if it was new or used, but it was in perfect shape. She is thrilled and says it has more in this graphic novel version than her original comic-type format. Thank you for making her happy! |
