3.0 out of 5 stars Two part gym battle and a cold turkey, September 6, 2002
By J. Nickerson (Pallet Town, Kanto) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a video from Pioneer's upcoming "High Voltage Collection" which only highlights certain episodes from the series, instead of following the storyline of the show.
First up is Episode 424 - The Tower Inferno, Ash and company arrive in Ecruteak City to challenge the gym leader, but they stumble across a tower filled with ghosts instead. Next is Episode 425 - From Ghost to Ghost; Ash finally challenges Morty the gym leader, but are Morty's ghost Pokemon too much for Ash? Finally, in 432 - Freeze Frame, Ash and pals meet up with an old friend in search for the legendary Articuno (which Ash doesn't seem to remember seeing in Pokemon The Movie 2000)!
The first two episodes are excellent and are actually continuous with each other, unlike the previous installment of the "High Voltage Collection". But the decision to include "Freeze Frame" is beyond me. Not only is it not a very good or particuarly action packed episode, but it is also the last part of a three episode story arc. Todd just appears out of nowhere and there is little explaination on why they're tracking Articuno.
The episodes are still virtually the same as they were when shown on Kids WB, including the awkward third commercial break inserted into the show towards the ending. Also, the intro and end credits play at the beginning and end of each episode. Overall, two out of three ain't bad, but hopefully Pioneer is planning on releasing DVD box season sets of the series, because these "Best Of" series is a real slap in the face to loyal Pokemon fans.
Pros: No intrusive Kids WB! logo... Great episodes. Slipsleeve box, not the childish clamshell the Johto Journeys series had.
Cons: Third commercial break still included, intro and credits tacked onto every episode.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this video, April 11, 2004
By Michael T. Yee (Thousand Oaks, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The episodes on this video come from Pokemon:Johto League Champions-Vol 4 and Pokemon:Johto League Champions-Vol 5. If you're trying to get a complete set (in order), buy volumes 4 and 5 instead.
