If you must...this is the best, August 3, 2009

My daughter's classmates are all into Pokemon. She's late to the game, and wanted to get in on the whole craze. I told her the local stores were charging too much for these decks, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Amazon offers two of these game sets for slightly more than the cost of just one at my local Wal-Mart.
What you get for this purchase is two sets that each contain a complete play deck, a mat to play the game on, little counters you can use for the gameplay (they're like icons to show that a Pokemon is poisoned or confused), and a rule book that is well written (and will take several passes to understand).
I rate this game with a high educational value because despite my dislike of "collectible" marketing to children, there's some mental development required to be good at this game. Children not only have to understand their characters' strengths and weaknesses, they have to make good logical decisions about which creature to use and when. They often make on-the-fly decisions about how to outdo each other, and they will need to know tens-based math, adding or removing "hit points" in 10-point increments. Some of the actions you have to perform require you to concentrate, e.g., "Flip a coin. If heads, remove the bottom 7 cards from your opponent's stack. Take any one of those seven, add it to your hand, return the others to opponent's deck, and reshuffle."
If your child needs to get into the Pokemon craze, this is a great way to get started: the little slim packs don't contain all the pieces that you need to play (nor the instructions) and this made us both able to play with her booster-pack cards.

These decks are great to buy if you are a Pokemon fan! With everything you need to start battling right away, you can use these as a starting point to your collection! Even if you have lots of cards, these decks can still be very useful. You can also buy Pokemon Platinum 2009 Spring Collector Tin - Shaymin X and Pokemon Platinum 2009 Spring Collector Tin - Giratina X to be able to use Lv.X in these decks!!! The Shaymin deck contains the following Pokemon (some in several copies for a more enjoyable experience): Shaymin, Ninetales, Vulpix, Beautifly, Silcoon, Wurmple, Kricketot, Lotad, Lombre, and Chimchar. The Giratina deck contains the following Pokemon (some in several copies for a more enjoyable experience): Giratina, Diglett, Dugtrio, Riolu, Shuppet, Misdreavous, Mismagius, Gardevoir, Kirlia, and Ralts. This is a very good deal about $6 less (not including shipping) than buying each deck separately. [...].

Nice gift for a kid that collects Pokemon cards, November 1, 2009

It's a nice gift for a kid that like this type of stuff. However, I do not see any educational value or do not understand how to play with these cards. But the kid was very very excited. The packs contained many cards that he either did not have or thought were hard to get.
