5.0 out of 5 stars Dad's review
My son (7) spoke in a language I did not understood. Realizing he was playing Pokemon Diamond and found out that at times he was running into trouble, not fully understanding the game. 3.0 out of 5 stars Pokemon Platinum Official Guide.
This guide is just loaded with information and most of it is well organized. The only problem I have with this guide is that a lot and I mean "A LOT!!!" of the text is SO small that it's almost impossible to read without a magnifying glass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dad's review, June 22, 2009
This review is from: Pokemon Platinum Version: The Official Pokemon Guide (Paperback)
My son (7) spoke in a language I did not understood. Realizing he was playing Pokemon Diamond and found out that at times he was running into trouble, not fully understanding the game. As father I have nothing with games but leaving your son alone is another thing. I've decided to play Pearl but as adult didn't have a clue where to start or where to go. At that time I've decided to buy a Diamond and Pearl Strategy guide in order to get some line in the game and to at least understand what it was all about. One thing led to another and together we played the game with so much more fun. He helps me and I help him when one of the battle trainers is a bit to difficult. Now we both play Pokemon Platinum with the help of this guide and we still have fun together. This book is so detailed, doesn't spoil your game (actually it explains things but you still have to do it yourself) and is an encyclopedia itself. Hours we spent in reading, explaining what it is all about. My son is learning English (we're Dutch) faster than I did at school (at 7 I didn't read a single English word but he does!). The book is styled in a pretty way, selfexplaining and garantees hours (days) of fun and sorts things out! It's value for money. One problem remains the same; my wife and Niels' mother doesn't understand us anymore when Niels and I speak Pokemon language to each other! This book does not solve that problem :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Horrah!, May 27, 2009
This review is from: Pokemon Platinum Version: The Official Pokemon Guide (Paperback)
This is the Holy Grail of Strategy Guides. It has not only a detailed game walk-through, but also a Pokédex of Pokémon you can find in the game, as well as a complete National Pokédex listing how you can get every single Pokémon!! I love the National Dex, it has listings from Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, and the GBA versions. I've been a Pokémon fan since it debuted in the U.S. and frankly I love this guide. It goes into more detail than other strategy guides, and the walk through actually lets you know when to come back for some rare items! If you want to catch 'em all then get this guide!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for the Pokemon Platinum game, July 7, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pokemon Platinum Version: The Official Pokemon Guide (Paperback)
OK in all honesty it is not complete it could have had more but it's really not that bad. It does cover a lot. It covers the whole new Platinum Sinnoh Pokedex witch now goes to 210. In great detail the walk-through covers all the Platinum changes the only thing it doesn't cover is found in the National Pokedex the Pokemon's TM's HM's and Move Tutor list and though Color Shard exchange. Also the National Pokedex only goes up to 492 it doesn't include 493 Arceus. The last thing I noticed is that throughout the book there are parts that have incorrect information. All 'N' all it's still pretty useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Guide for beginners, But that is it, March 29, 2009
This review is from: Pokemon Platinum Version: The Official Pokemon Guide (Paperback)
This 624 page guide is very informitave and great for beginners. This review is coming from someone who has played pokemon games for years and is on the compettive scene. here are my thoughts:

Props:
Great cover, informative on how to play the main game, decent post-game info, great cost for the product

Slops:
Poor paper and image quality, does not give all the info about every pokemon.

So if you play this game for fun or is for a new pokemon player, i HIGHLY recomend buying this.
if it is for someone who plays Pokemon on a regular basis, i would not bother.

Hope this helps everyone out there

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Guide, April 25, 2009
This review is from: Pokemon Platinum Version: The Official Pokemon Guide (Paperback)
I already own the Diamond and Pearl guides so I wasn't sure If I needed the Platinum one as well, but since it was cheaper on amazon than Gamestop I decided to get it anyway. Good thing I did, the book is twice as thick as the Diamond and Pearl guides and contains a bunch of new stuff. If you own the game but don't own a guide for Platinum or Diamond/Pearl then you should definitely get this, if you already own the Diamond and Pearl guide I would still recommend getting this guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty basic, June 18, 2009
This review is from: Pokemon Platinum Version: The Official Pokemon Guide (Paperback)
It tell you how to get all the items, Pokemon, and strategies for in-game battles. Pretty much what you would expect from a guide. For what it is it does it very well. For the more hardcore players that know about things like EV trainging, Pokerus, Shiny Pokemon, etc. The guide does nothing to help those of us interested, nor does it even mention any of these things. I did find the guide helpful with finding some of the pokemon that I missed to unlock the National Dex and a few good strategies for battles in the Battle Tower. So overall its a great guide, but it could be much better for people who are more hardcore players.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Price for a new guide, April 12, 2009
By
This review is from: Pokemon Platinum Version: The Official Pokemon Guide (Paperback)
My 9 and 11 year old sons have been anticipating the release of Pokemon Platinum for months. They were very excited to get both the game and the strategy guide. The most positive aspect of ordering the guide from Amazon was that the price was much better than any I had seen in any of the other stores. I ordered both the game and the guide, so I could receive the free shipping. The downside is that they cannot ship the game until the official release date. As a result, my youngest son waited a few days to receive the shipment from Amazon, while his older brother (who had purchased the game from Game Stop B&M AND received a special figurine for pre-ordering) had the game in hand and was playing it. However, the money we saved on the guide - and the fact that he received the guide - made up for the few days delay.

My son thinks that the guide is great and has significantly helped him with the game. Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase.

What I like about this strategy guide is its quality and in-depth information. It is a great guide for beginners as well as advance Pokemon fanatics. There are plenty of pictures to keep you entertained as well as great tips, maps, and information about the game. The Pokedex in the back is a great addition and gives lots of useful information. With over 600 pages in full color, this guide is definitely a great buy for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesomeness, June 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pokemon Platinum Version: The Official Pokemon Guide (Paperback)
Possibly the greatest guide book ever. It lists every single pokemon. It's got a complete walkthrough of Pokemon Platinum. It lists everything in detail. Totally worth 20 bucks. Excellent resource. Shipped within a reasonable time period as well. Some things the book lacks are hidden power determiners and suggested move sets, but neither of these are necessities. All in all, it was a great purchase and well worth it.
