4.0 out of 5 stars The pocket guide is....
I think the pokemon player pocket guide is a good book. The one I bought was a lot of help. It helped me expand my collection. My opinion is, you should buy it! Its worth it.

1.0 out of 5 stars a comedy of errors, October 6, 2000
This review is from: Pokemon Player Pocket Guide (Mass Market Paperback)
This guide was a severe disappointment. I realized when I bought it that it only included pictures of the holographic cards, but I did not learn until it was too late that this is really not enough. The authors apparently decided that pictures of all the cards would not be needed, since they included the names and levels of the pokemon. However, they forgot that the game also includes TRAINER cards. They give translations of these cards, but the translations just aren't enough to identify these cards because the names can have little or no connection to the pictures. More recent editions of this guide do include pictures of the Trainer cards, but they do not correct the many typographical errors found in the original guide. While some of these are innocent, such as the wrong symbol to tell what type of pokemon is on the card, many translations leave off crucial second attacks or pokemon powers. Some cards are not even in this guide, even though the guide claims to have translations of the entire expansion of which that card is a part. I would not recommend this guide or any of the later editions of this guide I have seen to anyone. I feel that a translation guide has absolutely no value if it has almost as many errors as pages.
