Pokemon Green Version is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting Pokemon games you can play--not only is it unavailable in the United States (which, by the way, allows you to be a spectacular show off), but it actually differs in some ways from the American Red and Blue Versions. Allow me to preface my explanation with a bit of history: Pokemon began in Japan as two humble GameBoy games developed by GameFreak (and bought by Nintendo). These games were Pokemon Green Version, and Pokemon Red Version (the Japanese Red Version is NOT the American Red Version). These two games have more difficult and complex caves, different Pokemon available to catch, and really, really ugly Pokemon sprite graphics. The games were successful, but Pokemon really became popular when the Japanese Pokemon Blue was released (not the same as the American Pokemon Blue). This new version included more refined Pokemon sprite graphics, as well as more simplified versions of the caves.

In short,
Japanese Pokemon Red =/= American Pokemon Red
Japanese Pokemon Blue =/= American Pokemon Blue
Japanese Pokemon Green was never released in the US

So, when it came time for Nintendo to release Pokemon in the United States, it was decided that Red and Blue would be the official colors (due to popularity), and that both games would use the new Pokemon sprites from the Japanese Pokemon Blue, as well as the new cave maps.

All this means that Pokemon fans in America completely missed out on the original Pokemon concepts! By the time Pokemon yellow was released (exactly the same in both Japan and the US), Pokemon had been standardized due to the cartoon (which yellow was based upon). It is fascinating to see the Pokemon sprites progressively from Green to Blue to Yellow and see how they evolved over time into their current forms. Not only this, but Pokemon from Green Version are BEYOND HIDEOUS and I nearly died laughing when I saw what Mew looked like (definitely look that one up).

Anyway, Pokemon Green works fine on any Gameboy system (NOT DS consoles, as they are only backwards compatible with GB Advance games). This game is a Japanese import from Japan, and thus the language is in Japanese. However, any Pokemon fan who has experience with the American Red/Blue/Yellow games, or has a corresponding Pokemon strategy guide can play through this game just fine.

In closing, It's nothing entirely new from the games we all know and love. Green is really a lot of fun even when the novelty of owning something so rare wears off.

I have been a Pokemon fan for a while and I ordered this, no regrets or dissapointments.This game was bafore they "Redone" the way the pokemon were animated in this game and alot of the pokemon will look different than they do in R/B/Y and so on.In the US we got this game but it was redone and is Pokemon Blue.Do not get this if you think it has different pokemon or wish to trade to American Versions,if a Japanese game is traded to an American version it will corrupt data on both games.

It's a huge collector's item. It's rare. If you're a fan of Pokemon and have either of the original games (red, blue, or yellow) there's no reason not to buy this if you find it. Think of everyone who tries to collect all of the games, but they can't because this game is so hard to find.

this was the first ever pokemon game its written in all Japanese but its still fun i do not recommend this as a first pokemon game and if it is than remember everything from the american version its different in a few ways first you can buy pp maxes in the store after beating the game you can also catch mew using the mew glitch [...]put that in your search bar and can edit the colors if you playing on a gba sp [...] and you can use the mew glitch to catch any single pokemon you can imagine even some glitch pokemon and fight prof oak who you where going to fight at the end of the game but they changed that but still left the data in i love this game! i totally recomend this game if your a pokemon nerd or collecter like me.(i put a link in here for the english version they still have the mew glitch but you cant buy pp maxes in the store:()Pokemon - Red VersionPokemon - Blue Version

This is the First pokemon game of all-time it is just like the R/B/Y series accept it is in japenese,the sprites are also a bit different. if you like pokemon R/B/Y you would also enjoy this game

Pokemon Green is the 4th game in the 'Color' series of the Pokemon games; it has the same Pokemon and the same concepts as its counterparts: Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, and Pokemon Yellow.

Pokemon Green hasn't been released outside Japan, so accordingly this game IS NOT in English.

The game has the quality, graphics, Pokemon, and levels as the other 'Color' series games.

THIS GAME IS NOT LEAF-GREEN.

This game has a Venasaur on the box cover and on the game cartidge, completing the 'Starter Pokemon Featured' series:

This game plays on a Nintendo DS, GameBoy Advance SP, GameBoy Advance, GameBoy Pocket. IT WILL WORK IN THE USA.

This Game is much better than you think. You get to see all different characters than red blue and yellow like all of the pokemon l@@K different. It is awesome buy it today
