It would be a great collector's item, I'd imagine.

This toy may not be top of the market in technology nor is it useful in real life situations but when I was a kid this was the toy to have.

I guess my imagination was better than I thought :D You can learn all 150 original Pokemon (the best ones) and a few fun facts about them.

Ah, my toy Pokedex! And what didn't I have? Back in the original craze of Pokemon, I had the games, I had the Burger King toys (recalled because the plastic Pokeball they came in had a chocking hazard aspect), the little plastic figures, the trading cards, and of course the Pikachus- an interactive robotic one, one that suction-cupped to the window, the sleeping bag...jeez, I was a materialistic kid, wasn't I?

Anyway, the Pokedex's addition to my collection was a day remembered well at Toys R Us where it was, if I can remember right, about $20. I wanted to play with this in my live action role-playing as a kid, and I even wanted the Ash Ketchup hat (which, unlike kids on the playground, I never found). The Pokedex served its purpose of being a physical device like the one in the game and on TV, but I must admit that the fun was somewhat limited outside of "playing Pokemon". You could press the numbers up to 150 to get a little dancing picture of the corresponding Pokemon on the screen. You could also type in the name. It gave you a few facts as well, but overall, it really just helped me learn the numbers of the Pokemon. It wasn't particularly interesting beyond that. I do somewhat remember a little game on it, but it wasn't too engaging.

It was a great little toy for a little Pokemon fanatic. The graphics were awful, it wasn't too fun, but I loved it. Where'd it go, anyway? And looking at this now, I see that it's not dissimilar to the modern Pokewalker graphic wise. Is this worth the price some people are asking for on here? Well, maybe for nostalgic reasons, but otherwise not really. It would be a great collector's item, I'd imagine. I have fond memories of those Pokemon days before there were over 100,000 of them. Meh, I don't keep up :P Perhaps I should snag a copy of Pokemon White and learn the new ones, but hey, you can't beat the golden days.

This toy may not be top of the market in technology nor is it useful in real life situations but when I was a kid this was the toy to have. I have friends who went and dug theirs out after seeing mine. This product was part of a bond in my generation and I appreciate that.

I bought this toy about a month ago, and it's helped me a lot! I ordered Pokemon Yellow and a Game Boy Color, and I got this to help me with Pokemon data. It's awesome and if you have are a fan of Generation I, this is a must-have.

I had one of these when I was younger. I wanted it so badly, I was really into Pokemon. Surprisingly I still had non-imaginary friends, I just really liked playing pokemeon. There was something exciting about it. Anyway, having this physical PokeDex made my day, and really made me feel like I was Ash. I am a dork, I am fully aware of that. Its function was pretty limited, and in terms of knowledge it was fairly useless. I say that because anyone into playing pokemon probably had a strategy guide with 10xs the information (such as what pokemon was weak against what, what moves it learned and when, etc etc)

However this PokeDex was never about usefulness, it was about feeling like Ash. For that it did exactly what it was designed to do. I recently bought one for my Nephew who I gave all my old pokemon stuff too. I lost my original PokeDex over the years so I got him a new one. He was just as happy to get it as I was back in the day. Even though the graphics are poor, its not about that, and will still provide a bright smile for a kid. I promise
