Amazon.com

The adventures of Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu veer toward the supernatural in this set of three episodes of the popular Pokémon series. In "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak," the perennially lonely Brock--and James of the evil but inept Team Rocket--find themselves smitten with the ghost of a beautiful girl who died 2,000 years ago. Ash learns an important lesson about self-sacrifice and concern for others when he gives up the first Pokémon he raised and trained in "Bye Bye Butterfree." Despite the best efforts of Team Rocket, Butterfree finds a mate and departs with her for their nesting grounds, giving this story an uncharacteristically downbeat ending. After being lost in the woods for the umpteenth time, our heroes reach Saffron City only to discover it's a very strange place in "Abra and the Psychic Showdown." They're rescued from their initial run-in with Team Rocket by Sabrina, a pretty little girl with mysterious psychic powers. The quartet learns that Sabrina can be an unreliable ally--and an unpredictable opponent. This cliffhanger ends with Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu setting out for nearby Lavender Village to capture a ghost Pokémon to use against Abra, Sabrina's psychic Pokémon. --Charles Solomon

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, January 23, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Pokemon - Psychic Surprise (Vol. 7) (DVD)
This Dvd is pretty good, but the last episode endes on a hang! Also buy Primape Problems so you can see what happens next! The 2nd episode is sort of sad. The 1st episode is kind of scary! Over all other than the Mystery of Mt. Moon, this is one of my favorite!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful video for any anime fan!, October 2, 2001
By A Customer
If you've seen Pokemon before, and like me, have noticed that the plotline rarely changes from episode to the next, this video is a refreshing change.
The first episode follows the story of the ghost of a young maiden who turned to stone waiting for her love to return from a war. Our heroes come face-to-face with a Gastly who is going about impersonating the ghost in order to keep her legend alive. This is one of the few episodes where Ash, Brock, and Misty actually work with Team Rocket, rather than thwart their thieving plans.
The second episode is very sweet; it's the story of Ash's Butterfree going off to find a mate and leaving his trainer. First, he must win a pink Butterfree's heart by rescuing her from Team Rocket. The epsiode ends with a touching array of scenes of catch catching and raising Butterfree from Caterpie.
The third episode, and my personal favorite, centers around Gym Leader Sabrina. Sabrina constantly holds a doll who seems to speak most of her dialouge for her. A mysterious man warns Ash not to challenge Sabrina, but since when does Ash listen to anyone? Upon losing, Ash and friends are almost trapped when Sabrina shrinks them down to doll size inside her toybox. The same man rescues Ash and tells his that if he were to capture a ghost Pokemon, he might stand a chance against Sabrina. He then quietly adds that he hope Ash can "rescue" her.
This is the last episode on the tape, unfortunatly. When the Pokemon episodes were released on video, they were put in groups of three epsiodes each in chronological order. So some videos, like this one, have a cliffhanger with no ending. If you want to see the end, Primape Problems is the next video after this, and it features the two concluding epsiodes about Sabrina.
If you're into anime, but skepital that Pokemon can provide an enjoyable plot, I highly recommend this video. This shows Pokemon at its best.
A word of warning: If you're thinking of purchasing this video for a child, the plot gets slightly complicated, and there are some spooky scene which may frighten smaller children. I would recommend Poke-friends, or another less intimidating tape.

3.0 out of 5 stars So Long Butterfree, April 29, 2000
By A Customer
My favorite episode in this video is Bye Bye Butterfree. It's sad because butterfree finds a mate and goes. The mate it finds is pink. Most Butterfrees are blue. The best part is when Ash is thinking of his old memories of when he caught Caterpie.I hope you'll watch it.
