As a seasoned Pokémon fan, both of the US and Japanese content, I am usually willing to defend any CD or movie with a Pokémon theme. I did it with Pokémon The Movie 2000, despite a lacklustre collection of overrated pop music aimed at 8 year olds. There is however, no defending this so-called `soundtrack'. Well I have to give the CD a decent score because I sing on it...but to be honest I was upset at how the release of this album was handled, as most Pokemon fans seem to be. The reason nearly all the tracks from Totally Pokemon are on this CD is because this CD is essentially a re-release of Totally Pokemon. KOCH didn't want to put any money behind promoting Totally Pokemon since the Pokemon "craze" has been in decline...so they figured that since practically no one knew that Totally Pokemon was even available (because it wasn't promoted!) and they needed to release a movie soundtrack - fast, they would save themselves a bunch of money by re-releasing material they already had...plus they wouldn't even have to put the $$$ into advertising it since the release of the movie would be enough recognition for sales. What a cheap way of handling it, right? ARGH! Sorry I sound so bitter, but I just wish things had been handled differently. Anyway, if you're lookong for fun pop music, either this CD or Totally Pokemon are worth the $15. Of course I'm biased because I sing on it, but I still think it's a good record. I know this was a lot of random info, but I thought the true Pokemon fans would appreciate the inside scoop...hope you guys are enjoying your CDs! And you should have heard the version of Two Perfect Girls that we sang...it was so much better...I'm sad it didn't make the final cut :(

4.0 out of 5 stars Pokemon Ultimate Soundtrack, April 9, 2001

Great, sadly most of the songs DID come out already on the Totally Pokemon Soundtrack. New things? 3 new songs, Pokemon Johto Movie Version, To know the unknown by Innosense, Instrumental Medley from the movie Spell of the Unknown, a poster with pictures of all 251 pokemon (pictures only to my disappointment), and 2 music videos (new pokerap, and opening battle scene from the movie) As a collector, i had to have it, but a lot of it is rehash. As it stands, if you didn't get totally pokemon this is a great soundtrack. They took the best songs from that album and the movie songs and some little extras to make a good album, I just wish there were more new stuff for someone who also has Totally Pokemon.

It is simply another version of the `Totally Pokémon' CD that we saw in January, which was without question a superb collection of perhaps only slightly too `poppy' songs. The success of this CD does not however justify the re-launch of a clone product, with only three extra tracks. It makes me wonder why the producers even bothered to bring out Totally Pokémon, when they knew that the soundtrack was going to be the same thing...

Overall, if you bought the Totally Pokémon CD, then this CD is only for the most die-hard Pokémon collector to add to your hoard. Otherwise, I would suggest saving your money for a copy of the Japanese Third movie score, which was a wonderful compilation of music, rivalling everything on the US Third Movie soundtrack CD. I only hope that the fourth Pokémon movie's soundtrack is something more inspiring than a rework of the Johto series score.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather disappointed..., April 9, 2001

Unless you did not buy the Totally Pokemon CD (which I'm sure any Poke-fan already got), then this CD is not a good buy. I loved last year's Pokemon the Movie 2000 soundtrack, because we got to listen to some great, big power stars like Donna Summer, Weird Al and the amazing B-52s croon cool new Pokemon tunes. I guess Warner Bros didn't feel like shelling out any major money this time around. (Rumor has it that Pokemon 3 will be the last Poke-film Warner Bros will release in theaters) Only two new songs are on this CD, plus a melody of the film's score, while the other nine are directly from the Totally Pokemon CD. I enjoyed the first two tracks from the movie, but it really isn't worth buying the CD just for those two songs. If the older tracks had been remixes of the original songs, then this CD might have gotten a higher score, but as it is... still, if you do not yet have the Totally Pokemon CD, then this is a good buy for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars And Let The Cheating Begin!, April 8, 2001
This review is from: Pokemon 3 The Ultimate Soundtrack (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
The reason I look forward to the movie soundtracks more than the TV soundtracks of Pokemon is because the movie CD's have always had adults and teens in mind over kids! Sadly though, the original (First two) movie CD's were made by Atlantic, and for one reason or another Atlantic didn't get the rights to make the third movie soundtrack, and so the rights were givin to Koch Records instead! Now they could have done a great job if they had sat down and thought about the things Atlantic did that made the first 2 CD's so enjoyable then this CD would have been in good hands! But no! Instead of giving us something we can truly remember they take mostly all the songs from the "Totaly Pokemon" soundtrack, place them on this one, give us about three new songs, and totaly waste, what could have been, a good CD!!! And since they just made this like an upgraded CD of the second TV soundtrack, I will only grade the new songs instead of all of them like I did in the past!

1. Pokemon Johto - Movie Vertion (3/5)

Pokemon theme songs have always been treated with little respect when it comes to remakes and this one is no exception! It's washed down, boring, poorly sung, and a compleate wash-up of the original vertion of the song! Luckly for you, the original vertion is on this CD too so you can compare for yourself what the difference is!

2. To Know The Unkown - Innosense (5/5)

However for the movies theme they got it dead on! What we have here is a great theme that tells a great story! It has something to do with the movie, and it has alot of heart in it! For the first movie we got M2M's "Don't Say You Love Me," for the second we got Donna Summer's "The Power Of One," and now we have Innosense's "To Know The Unkown!" Man, with Pokemon we get some pretty good movie theme's!

3. Medley From "Spell Of The Unknown" (4/5)

If there'e one thing I loved about the Pokemon movie it's that whoever wrote the score for this movie did a great job on it! Sadly, this isn't one of the best tracks from the movie! But it's still a GREAT track anyways!!!

So while I didn't thing this CD was done properly, their are a few songs that stand out! Just don't pay [too much] for it or you'll be sorry you did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the lot, June 27, 2003
By
This review is from: Pokemon 3 The Ultimate Soundtrack (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
Being interested primarily in score music, I bought this CD mainly for my two nephews, who are both Pokemon mad. I have the soundtracks from the previous two movies and, while they are okay in general, there are only a few songs off each that I really enjoy listening to over and again.
I was stunned (and thrilled), upon purchasing the Pokemon 3 soundtrack, to discover the second disk was dedicated entirely to score music. I have little interest in the lame songs from the TV show itself. I took my nephews to see the 3rd movie in the cinema, and it was the music above and beyond anything else that really caught my attention. I held off on buying the CD for so long, though, because I thought it was just a mixture of those same old ridiculous songs (ie, Two Perfect Girls), and just the one medley of music from the movie.
I half wish I had bought it sooner, now, though I would have had to pay much more than what I actually did. (I got the double CD for just five dollars)
Of all the tracks on the score, track 6 would have to be my favourite. It has all the energy and tension that made sitting through a movie a halfway enjoyable experience. The other tracks (I can't provide a name for any of them, because there was no track list provided for the score CD) were all just as good, and there was a nice added bonus of the 'Legend Comes to Life', Lugia's theme from the Pokemon 2000 CD.
All in all, the addition of a full score CD to this collection has made it one hundred percent worth having.

3.0 out of 5 stars You can smell cheap marketing tactics from a mile away., May 26, 2001

This review is from: Pokemon 3 The Ultimate Soundtrack (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
I do not, in any way, like the way this CD was put together. For the uninitiated, the story goes something like this:

Back in January, a "Totally Pokémon" CD was released. This CD had 12 tracks featuring songs from the Johto Journeys TV show. These tracks included Pokémon Johto, as well as the closing themes (Pikachu, All We Wanna Do, Two Perfect Girls, You & Me & Pokémon, Song of Jigglypuff) and even a new Pokérap.

Let's change back to the present. The marketing "geniuses" at KOCH Records have released the soundtrack to Pokémon 3: The Movie. Using their great marketing logic, they figured that they could make a couple of bucks by taking the Totally Pokémon CD, putting 2 or 3 new tracks on it, changing the title, and selling it as the soundtrack to Pokémon 3.

I don't like this. Some of us have already shelled out $15 for Totally Pokémon, and if KOCH expects us to pay that amount again for three whole new tracks, they're dead wrong.

It's obvious that this was an attempt at raking in some money, without spending any.

I still think getting Atlantic Records to do this soundtrack would've been the best option, but if they really *did* want to use little money, they could've released the Pokémon 3 soundtrack as a single, without all the rehash. Or, they could keep it an album, but get new renditions of all the songs. Or, they could include a bit more of the musical score on the CD. Either way, all the re-hash would be avoided.

And to top it all off, the soundtrack is overpriced. Great.

My final verdict? If you've already purchased "Totally Pokémon", don't buy this CD unless you're a REALLY hardcore fan. If you don't have Totally Pokémon, it might be worth it.

*MIGHT* be worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Say what you will but..., July 8, 2004
This review is from: Pokemon 3 The Ultimate Soundtrack (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
This is a pretty good album. I got it when I was only 13 and now years later I can still enjoy it. Sure, it's a re-release of Totally Pokémon, but at the time I couldn't find it and I found that the tracks were on this soundtrack. Basically this is Totally Pokémon V. 1.2, and if you don't already have Totally Pokémon this is definitley worth it.

This CD features all the Pokémon Karaokemon tracks in their full version, the intro to Pokémon Johto Journeys, a remix that was in the movies (and is even better than the original), and some other tracks like the catchy Pokémon GS, and other songs such as He Drives Me Crazy, Biggest Part of my Life and others, as well as Karaoke versions of three of the Karaokemon tracks and To Know the Unknown, the ending sequence of the third movie. If you don't mind Pokémon-themed music, this is definitley a good CD and I'd recommend it.

This is the best cd ever made...it has features that you can do on your computer that all those people that gave it a bad rating probably missed. You can watch the cool and never boring pokerap and a scene from the greatest movie ever: Pokemon 3. I mean come on people, don't just pop this cd in your cd player, use it to it's fullest extent...put it in your computer and watch the awesome features that this cd has.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great music, but over half this stuff's on Totally Pokémon!, December 9, 2001
This review is from: Pokemon 3 The Ultimate Soundtrack (2001 Film) (Audio CD)
I really like this CD, but if you own "Totally Pokémon", I suggest just looking for an MP3 of "To Know The Unknown". Much of this is from the TV series, except for the remake of "Pokémon Johto","To Know The Unknown", and the score medley. Well, I really enjoy this. I've always liked Pokémon "bubbly",pop-style ever since I've bought 2.B.A. Master. This is just great! The downside is that it doesn't have all the songs from "Totally...".
One of my fave songs off that, "Do Ya Really Wanna Play", isn't
on this :(. Well, "To Know The Unknown" is wonderfully written, a
and any Pokémon music fan should really take a look into that.
