This is the guidebook for visually oriented people.,
By
This review is from: Poland (Eyewitness Travel Guides) (Paperback)
I used this book to plan an upcoming trip to Poland. Like most people I know virtually nothing about what there is to see in Poland. This book was indispensable! And best of all it is filled with pictures! So even though Poland is filled with castles I was able to make a judgement as to which castles looked the most interesting. If you are spending only three or four days in Krakov this book contains more than enough information. No need to buy the Krakov book. The book is divided into regions with lots of maps to help orient you. They also spend a page or two giving in-depth highlights of areas of special interest in addition to the usual stuff for each area. If you are visually oriented don't even think about buying any other guidebook.

You may have never considered vacationing in Poland, but after reading the Eyewitness Travel Guide for this country you will definitely want to make plans to go. DK does a fantastic job of highlighting the wonders of Poland. Ten years from now Poland will be just as high or higher on the tourist itinerary as Prague is today.

DK's Travel Guides Are The Best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Eyewitness Travel Guide to Poland (Eyewitness Travel Guides) (Paperback)
Dorling Kindersley publishes the most beautiful travel guides filled with colorful photographs and brief descriptions and background on points of interest in the particular country. TheirPoland guide is as good as their other country and city guides. DK's guides are the only ones I buy......there are none better out there !!!! I highly recommend this one for all those who are planning to visit Poland.

An excellent book, providing essential tourism information for the serious tourist to Poland. It contains a wealth of data, and makes planning and actual travel and sightseeing much easier. Highly recommended.

A bit disappointing for this DK fan,
By newyork2dallas (Dallas, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Poland (Eyewitness Travel Guides) (Paperback)
I like the DK books because they have good maps, nice pictures, diagrams of major sites and more without the preachiness and lead-you-by-the-hand aspect of other guidebooks. But the Poland book I had, which is the edition with the triangular yellow peak and gabled roof of the Wroclaw town hall on the front (the newest one has a landscape scene), disappointed.
First, it concentrated entirely too much on Warsaw. Second, it gave relatively short shrift to both Krakow and Auschwitz. For those reasons, the book did not provide the level of detail or the solid amount of suggestions of what to see that I expected from a DK Guide. Indeed, on my trip, we used the local In Your Pocket guides and supplemented with a general Eastern Europe travel book by that bespectacled fellow who does not use the front door and whose name slips the mind, but rarely took the DK guide with us during the day. Hopefully, the lapses we noticed have been rectified in the new version of the guidebook (remember, landscape on the cover). If not, steer clear and buy a guidebook written by some other company, even the aforementioned man who is always on PBS -- whatshisname.

DK Eyewitness books are the best travel guide bar none. We travel alot overseas(15 trips this year)and we always look for a DK Guide first. However, use local information for restaurants and the web for accomodations.

The best guide to Poland,
By
This review is from: Poland (Eyewitness Travel Guides) (Paperback)
I found this "Travel" guide to be the finest single guide to Poland that I came across. The photos and maps and other graphics are marvelous and highly educational and informative. An older edition of this guide was essential to two excellent trips to Poland and has served to keep wonderful memories alive and vivid.

Eyewitness Travel Guides are inconsistent,
By Natalia (Denver, CO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Poland (Eyewitness Travel Guides) (Paperback)
I have found Eyewitness travel guides inconsistent. They are not all organized the same way and are not always helpful. The maps in the Poland guide were useless and I found many descriptions lacking. Much of what is written about accomadations and restaurants is inaccurate.
