***IMPORTED from S. Korea*** In Cul-de-sac Roman Polanski seems to have allowed the torrent of his talent and morbid humor and his original, insightful perceptiveness to flood this film. With beautiful Black and White photography on a British island with a castle, and funny, serious, and ultimately tragic situations between the unusual couple who live there and the thug who arrives uninvited, the viewer is treated to perhaps the best of Polanski's movies. Donald Pleasence in a role so unusual for him and Françoise Dorléac, the beautiful sister of Catherine Deneuve, are the couple of the castle, and Lionel Stander, "Max" of "Hart to Hart", is the thug who forces himself on them. His absurd, jarring presence acts as the catalyst that brings out the couple's true natures, and the true nature of their relationship, with unpredictable consequences.
The Dual-Layer DVD includes the 24-min. "Two Gangsters and an Island", a lovingly produced discussion and analysis of the film, with Polanski who also co-wrote the script, cinematographer Gilbert Taylor, production designer Voytek, and the producers, among others. The movie is in Widescreen [1.85 :1], in Dolby Stereo and Surround, with the Theatrical Trailer, and Photo Gallery. The language is English, with choice of None, Japanese, or Korean subtitles (No English). ***IMPORTED from S. Korea***
