As she teaches them skills like fishing, swimming, and walking on the ice, one of the cubs jumps eagerly into the activities, while the other sleeps through them. When a much larger bear threatens the little family, they hurry home. There, the more active cub falls asleep, while the former sleepyhead looks forward to tomorrow's adventures. Told with short, simple words, the story has just enough going on to keep young readers interested. McCue's appealing watercolor paintings feature the active bears against arctic backgrounds created in tones of winter white and icy pastels. Well designed for beginning readers. Carolyn Phelan

My 5 year old loves this book. She thinks the polar bears are cute and silly and wants me to read it to her over and over again. We've had some fun times together with the book. I highly recommend it. She's starting to read it herself now.
