You can read the story yourself; have it read to you, but you still turn the pages; or you can put it on auto-play and it will turn the pages while it reads the story all on its own.

You touch the pictures and it will say and show the word, on the first page the words that show up are snow bank, snow, sky, den and polar bear.

EBooks usually have a scanned quality to them and don't take up the whole screen of my kindle but these stories provide a great experience by zooming in at specific times to reflect what is going on in the story. The narrator's voice is plesant and the sound effects really add a nice touch to the story.

For those with sensitive children, the polar bear does get a seal during this book. It is not gruesome or anything, it just says "Suddenly, seal pops up for air. Polar Bear springs and flips the seal onto the ice. Finally, she eats a good meal and the cubs taste the meat."

I purchased this interactive book for my 8 year old grandson. This non-fiction children's book has stunning Arctic colors with fun "fade in and out" labels of items in the pictures when they are touched. The book has 3 options; Read to Me, Read it Myself and Auto Play. The music and sounds that accompany the story are soothing and fit the real life story of a mother Polar Bear with her two cubs. The reading of this story in Read to Me and Auto Play is full of expression and easy to understand. The child can follow along as the story is read aloud with a feature that highlights the words as the reader reads the text. When the child chooses Read it Myself, the sounds of the seabirds, the noises the animals make, along with actions - are included to give this story life. A factual section with information and details about Polar Bears is included at the end of the story.Polar Bear Horizon - Smithsonian Oceanic Collection

Thought it would be a great app for my kids....I can't even open this app...tried many times and the message keeps popping up saying it needs to be force closed. I'd like to have my money back, please. Bought 3 of the apps from the Smithsonian collection..waste of my money!
