I eat tuna almost daily and have tried every brand out there. Polar is the only one that actually has chunks of tuna as the bulk of the meat. The other brands look more like the swept up shreds off the canning room floor, swimming in water. When I open a can of Polar tuna, I can clearly see the large, discrete flakes of tuna, and when I squeeze out the water, I still have most of the can left, filled with tasty tuna! I'll go to almost any lengths to buy this tuna. Thank God it's available through Amazon!

I want to echo what the last reviewer had to say. I enjoyed this canned Polar Tuna from Meijers for years and then, suddenly, about a year ago it DISAPPEARED from their shelves. Meijers management told me that it wasn't popular enough and they stopped carrying it. What a surprise to find it on Amazon.com!

I ordered a box of the foil-packaged tuna (about 6 oz., I think) because it was lighter weight and available directly from Amazon with free shipping.

In either form, this is premium light tuna. Excellent texture (not mushy like cat food!). Superior flavor too. My all-time favorite.

This is the best tuna on the market, and one of very few to be 100% free of soy products. It's tuna, just tuna, no added junk. Give it a taste once, and you'll never go back to other brands. All of this, and you don't even have to pay a premium price for it either. It compares favorably to many far more expensive canned tunas.

My husband has been buying Polar tuna for years and kept saying how wonderful it was. All of a sudden we could not find it in any stores in Ohio. I called the company and for some unknown reason it had been pulled from Ohio. I was so pleased to find that I could purchase it from Amazon and now I have a happy husband again!Polar Chunk Light Tuna in Water, 6-Ounce Cans (Pack of 48)

The title says it all I think, but to elaborate: the quality of processing used to produce this tuna is top notch. Each can contains big thick pink flakes of tuna not some sad grey pulpified puree'd tuna mash.

I came across Polar tuna after getting fed up with finding scales n' bones in every other brand of tuna that I bought. Unfortunately, my local grocer stopped carrying Polar, so I was glad to find that I could buy it through Amazon.

Polar chunk light has a nice mild, very fresh flavor, I greatly enjoy it and highly recommend it.

****reviews in a can****

A really delicious and FRESH tasting tuna!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
****Deep Sea Review****
The PCLT(Polar Chunk Light Tuna) really surprised our whole family with its delicious taste.
My wife and I are big tuna eaters and we have eaten "Starkist" (like everyone else), "Bumble Bee" (Bees in the Sea?), "Chicken of the sea" among some other brands.
We bought the PCLT because the price just happened to dip on par with our usual Starkist tuna and we decided that it was time to give these a try.
We were GREATLY surprised at how great these tuna taste! But even BIGGER than that was HOW fresh the tuna tasted...
1)Volume and value
The PCLT cost more per can than the Starkist or other popular brands that one can get at the supermarket. For our area, the difference is about $0.20-$0.39 ish.
BUT, when we opened the drained the PCLT, we realized at how full the tuna were. They were NOT pressed nor packed down like other name brands. The tuna looked very healthy and clean and it actually smelled like "FISH" and NOT "Fishy!"
Once we drained out the water, the tuna still took up most of the volume inside the can. When we drain out other popular brands, we usually get about 20% shrinkage.
When I add in the fact that there is an 8% tax here (7% state, 1% hospitality tax) and the cost of gas and the wait in line, I think these tuna are actually BETTER value
2) TASTE and FRESHNESS
First of all, if one chooses to eat tuna, that means that they already like the taste of tuna. So I cannot bad mouth the Starkist of the Bumbling Tuna of the Sea brands because we like them and we eat them.
The "Fishy" taste of the national brands are something that us tuna eaters have gotten used to and can by-pass and maybe for many of us, we even consider it the norm. (Hey, that "tuna" smell is just the way it is!)
Well, I will attest to that the PCLT will change your mind about how canned tuna should "smell".
These tuna smell FRESH! They also taste FRESH. They have a meaty and creamy(not like cream but more like a real good steak that melts in your mouth cream) taste to them.
They also don't break up as easily as the national brands and are NOT as watery.
When we make tuna and leave it over night, we usually have to drain out quite a bit of liquid the next day.
The PCLT doesn't have as much water the next day. Making it a real delight. And the "FishY" smell that one usually get with the next day tuna, is minimal.
The bites are savory and it doesn't have an after taste. It kind of "melts" in your mouth...
even our kids, who usually don't like tuna, asked for more...
Obviously, it is hard to describe "taste" as everyone is different and like different things...
they say that smell and taste go hand in hand. The PCLT have a good combo of both, smells fresh, and tastes great.
3) Packaging and shipping
this is where they could work on... The tuna came in one big box with the cans stacked. It was left on our porch and it was 82 degrees outside.
When I found the box when I got home, I was afraid that some of it or all of it might have gone bad. Luckily, the 8 cans that we've consumed thus far have been wonderful.
about 40% of the cans were dented (not damaged) and I think they will be alrighty. But I'd still like to see a better packing, then again, it might drive up the price, so maybe I shouldn't complain.
I'd also would like for them to leave the tuna in the shaded area. So the shipping box should have been better labeled for the delivery driver. If one lives in a hot zone, they might consider being there to receive shipping (the good thing with Amazon is that it'll tell you the approx arrival date).
As for the cans themselves, they don't have the pull lids. I think in this case, it is an advantage. Because of the amount of the dented cans, I think if these were the pulled lids, there would've been a significant amount of the cans that would've leaked thus damaging and spoiling the goods inside.
By making it a sealed can (needing a can opener), it makes the product ship-able and creates minimal damage would help keep the cost down.
The other advantage of the sealed lid is that it helps preserve the freshness of the tuna(I think) and for that, I am all for it and am willing to get out my can opener...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

All in all, these tuna are delicious, fresh tasting, and of GOOD value (IMHO).

I am not sure if anyone (including us) would go back to the Charlie or the Bees once they've tasted this tuna...

highly recommended

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
btw, I have seen these tuna as high as $74ish and as low as $45ish. I picked up ours for around $45ish.
If one is new to Amazon. Their prices fluctuates all the time. I've find that adding them to your cart (if the price is too high) and then save it for later and wait until the price drops down is a very convenient way to get these tuna (as well as other Amazon products) at the best price(s)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I've posted some photos of the chunks of the tuna for those that might want to open up their can of regular tuna and compare the nice chunks vs. the bits and pieces...

I eat tuna and chicken with the occasional rabbit thrown in as I am trying to loose 50 or so pounds put on after back surgery. So far down 20. Why is it relevant? Well it means I have eaten my share of tuna and tried them all, honestly can barely stand it anymore, that is until I received my case of Polar Tuna! Its that good! Best canned/packaged Tuna I have tasted. The texture is amazing, big meaty flakes. The color perfect not brownish or gray and the flavor is intact. It doesn't taste fishy, tinny, or flavored up with additives (250mg Sodium per serving).
I WANT to eat Tuna again and will only buy this brand from now on!

I've never heard of this brand until I got here on Amazon. All my life I'd been eating other, bigger brands. This Polar tuna is almost like an entirely different product. I was so used to the tiny tuna shreds immersed in water which constitute other brands of tuna (Bumblebee, StarKist, etc), where it takes forever to drain the can because the water is basically embodied in the tuna shreds. But this product is wonderful-- just large chunks of fish, easily drained and easily separated from water. It is simply marvelous tuna, and if you have a need for tuna in huge bulk, there is nothing better.

Polar Tuna is the best Tuna I have ever tasted. No brown 'stuff' floating around in oil and no 'mush'. I have been looking for Polar Tuna for over a year since the Meijer's and Pat's Food Store no longer sold it. It was just awful having to buy the other brands to find anything that would come close to the great taste of Polar Tuna. I am so very pleased to have found it via internet. Who would have thought!!!! I hope they continue to sell Polar Tuna for many many years to come. THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!
