Product Description

A great watch for recreational exercisers who want an easy start to fitness, the Polar FT1 is a great piece of kit for those runners wanting basic heart rate monitoring. The Polar FT1 shows heart rate on large and easy-to-read display and helps improve your fitness with automatic age-based heart rate target zone. The FT1 also displays a summary of your latest workout and offers one-button functionality and coded heart rate transmission to avoid cross-talk. Heart rate (bpm) - Heart rate is the measurement of the work your heart does. Heart rate can be expressed as the number of beats per minute or as percentage of your maximum heart rate. Heart rate can also be expressed as a percentage of your heart rate reserve, meaning the difference between your resting heart rate and maximum heart rate (HRR = HRmax - HRrest) Heart rate-based target zones with visual and audible alarm - You can define your target zones for a training session based on heart rate to help define the right intensity Manual target zone (bpm) - This feature enables you to define the target zone as you want and is suitable for your training. You can set the target zone for your training as beats per minute (bpm), as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, or as a percentage of your heart rate reserve (HRR%). Polar OwnCode (5kHz) Coded Transmission - Coded heart rate transmission automatically locks in a code to transmit your heart rate to the training computer. The training computer picks up your heart rate from your transmitter only. Coding prevents interference from other training computers. Recording Features - Training files (with summaries) = 1 Training features HeartTouch - button-free operation of wrist unit - When HeartTouch is on, different training information during training can be accessed without pressing buttons, for instance, when gloves make pressing buttons difficult, by bringing your training computer close to your transmitter. From the Manufacturer

Smarter Exercise Starts Here

Exercising in the right zone will help you improve your fitness and see results sooner.

A heart rate monitor will help guide and motivate you so every workout counts.

Low intensity training is good for burning fat, while high intensity improves fitness. Your heart rate tells you your training intensity and helps you achieve the results you want.

Polar FT1 Heart Rate Monitor

Exercise smarter with the Polar FT1 heart rate monitor. The FT1 provides continuous, accurate heart rate that will help you safely exercise at the right intensity.

Here's how it works: While exercising, the FT1 will display your heart rate in beats per minute on its large easy-to-read display. When you exercise out of your preset heart rate zone, the FT1 gives a visual and audible alarm. It's like a personal coach on your wrist telling you when to slow down or speed up.

  • Includes the T31 coded heart rate transmitter chest strap which picks up your heart rate monitor and not others nearby.

It works as advertised. It is very accurate. I know because I wore it while at a rehab session where I was also connected to professional equipment. The two monitors were in sync.

It's not fancy and doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but it does do what it's supposed to do and that is be an accurate heart rate monitor. The numbers are easy to read and programming is pretty simple. If not for a few minor issues I would have given it 5 stars. First, it would have been better if it had separate buttons instead of the one button does all. It's not that bad, but does take some getting used to. Secondly, there has been a couple times where for some reason while in the heart monitor mode it reset itself to time mode. No big deal just mash the button to get back to heart monitor. More of an annoyance that a real problem. Third, the band is el cheapo and when it breaks I guess you can chunk it. It doesn't look like the band is replaceable. Fourth, your skin has to be moist before the chest strap will work. I spray myself with a misting bottle before putting the chest strap on and it works every time.

I have brief cardiac arrhythmia episodes once or twice every three months but can't feel it when my heart rate speeds up to 200 beats per minute, or higher, without some type of heart rate measurement device. By wearing my Polar FT1 while I'm awake, even though I might not know it when my heart rate sky-rockets, my Polar FT1 catches it and keeps track of it. It keeps a record of my average heart rate and maximum heart rate each day and allows me to enter that data into a file on my laptop computer which shows both the numerical data and a 2-D bar graph of that data to show my cardiologist at my check-ups. The Polar FT1's data matches the same data gathered by the EKG machine in my doctor's office and in my hospital's fitness center, where I work out, so its accuracy is exceptional. The Polar FT1 is easy to put on each day, easy to operate (I just put it on when I'm dressing, turn it on when I'm dressed, turn it off and take it off when I get ready for bed, gather that day's average heart rate and maximum heart rate, and key it into my laptop computer's file for that date), and it is comfortable to wear all day. With Amazon.com's great price, which is lower than Polar's price or the prices offered by some of the other on-line retailers who sell these great devices, I can afford to gather this much needed data economically, The built-in batteries in the Polar FT1's transmitter unit and the wristwatch-like receiver/recording unit last for approximately one year of waking-hours-use the way I use them. The wristwatch functions of the receiver/recording unit are helpful and easy to use. Most people assume it is just my digital wristwatch and never know it is performing a very helpful and necessary function for me and my cardiac health.Read more ›

What makes a good product purchase? Well in my opinion it's all about value. I was looking for a no frills basic Heart Rate Monitor from a supplier with a good reputation. I didn't need one to make my coffee, plug into my computer to give me a breakdown of where I've been or talk back to me.

This was fairly simple to use out-of-the-box even for me (technology challenged). It gets a good deal of use (6 days a week) and is used strictly for when I run and it allows me to make significantly more productive use of my slow, easy runs as well as my tempo runs and my max threshold runs.

The numbers are easy to read, adjusting from HR, to stopwatch to time of day is simple and effortless.

Other than the strap (on the heart rate monitor not the watch) coming off a couple of times when I've tried to adjust it on the fly (chalk this up to operator error) it has worked perfectly. I would give this an exceptional rating for value, ease of use and quality of product.

I got this item, and I have used it for a few days now it works great, the chest strap is really comfy no matter what type of work out I have done. The only bad thing I can say is that every few mins it cycles from heart rate to time then to your stop watch and you can not control when it does it or, how long it stays on each one, however it does beep to let you know it has switched to the next thing. Overall for the price I would tell anyone who wants a basic no frills model that does the job to get this. One more thing even if the watch is on the stop watch, or time function if you have the heart rate function on and you drop below or go above your target zones it beeps to let you know that you are not in your zone.

I purchased 2 of these monitors, one for me and one for my wife. It's a basic monitor but it does it's job very well. It has only 1 button
to control functions and takes some getting used to but 10 minutes with the instruction book solves that problem. It works well and does the job it's designed to do. As a former masters athlete I recommend it.

this is a very, very basic heart rate monitor. it performs that function well but not much else. I wish I had gotten the model I had before which gave you averages and time in range information.
