Product Description

The Neutral Density Frame2.0 filter has been completely redesigned and beefed up for even greater durability. This Frame2.0 filter is for when filming outside the waterproof housing with your GoPro Heor4, Hero3+, or Hero3 cameras. The Frame2.0 filter is very easy to install, you simply slide it onto the camera lens and you are ready to go. All new for this edition is new glass which is much better optically and even more durable. The construction of the frame is also much more built including an over mold protecting the glass. The Frame2.0 series is a series designed for shooting outside the housing, where you do not need the waterproof housing, and you are looking for an even sharper video. We shoot most of our ski videos, car videos, and quadcopter videos with the Frame filters. The most common application we use a Neutral Density filter for is when we want to make moving things blurred. The GoPro Hero3+ has a very high shutter speed so often times when moving fast, nothing is blurred, creating the illusion that you are not moving quickly. For example when in the car the neutral density filter will blur the pavement and it creates the illusion of speed. Another use for the neutral density filter is for aviation, remote control planes, and shooting with quadcopters. The filter reduces the jello-effect which happens when the camera is mounted to vehicles with high vibration. Possibly the simplest thing to use an ND filter for is just toning down bright scen

I bought this to use on my DJI Phantom II with the Zenmuse Gimbal. I wanted to get rid of the horizontal lines caused be the rotor blades and the sun as well as some occasional jello in the GoPro video. It did the trick perfectly and the video I have recorded since adding the lens has been clear of both. It fits nicely and seems decently made and should hold up with a little careful handling. I was initially worried because it added forward weight to the GoPro causing it to tilt badly forward. However when I turned on the Phantom the gimbal straightened it up fine and handled the weight. I've only used it a short time but it it proves to be durable, it will be perfect.

This is a must-have item for anyone with a GoPro Hero 3 or 3+ camera. The result when you use it is more of a natural feel when it comes to shutter speed and it also increases the contrast on bright skies and road scenes. We do a lot of shooting with Hero cams on cars, near the wheels, and without this attachment you get quite an unnatural look to rotating objects, like car wheels, where they seem to not be turning at all, turning backwards, or etc. Road views are also overly crisp due to the very fast shutter speeds. While this may be what you want on some occasions, the more natural feel this filter gives you truly makes your images look, in my opinion, more expensive.

The only drawback, and the reason I didn't give this 5 stars, is that you can't leave your camera in the protective case when you use this. That means that your built-in mic gets completely blown out by air noise, where before you may end up with usual nat audio. Also, the camera is exposed to the elements, so this adapter will not work in rain or wet conditions, which mostly likely would be darker outside anyway and you might end up with pictures that are too dark. I have read other reviews where they have said that this attachment gets rid of the "jello" effect, and I haven't had that problem yet, but the increased mass around the lens may be a critical factor in helping to remove these vibrations. In any case, I still think this product is highly useful and should be included in your GoPro kit. Note that you will need the Hero cam "frame" adapter in order for this to work. The normal Hero case now has a flat front that this filter will not fit over. I'd like to see them make a version that will work with Hero 3 and Hero 3+ clear cases. By the way, the case for the Hero 3 is better than the newer and lighter one for the 3+. Go with the older case and you'll have a more durable setup.

Helpful tip for GoPro shooters. Make sure you're shooting with the following settings.
ProTune: On
ISO limit: 400 (Hero3+/4 only)

Setting ISO limit is key in order to have this work correctly. Otherwise the camera will just gain up to compensate for the lack of light, and give you a noisier image. Plus, shooting in ProTune is always better since you get 45mb/sec instead of 35.

Just mounted on the camera it makes a really good Neutral Density filter. It works. Doesn't color cast the footage like some cheap ND's will do creating a color correction nightmare in post

BUT if you're doing aerial footage, with say a DJI Phantom and H3-3D gimbal, this is not the ND to use. It's really too big for the GoPro and adds too much weight that could ruin your gimbal motors as they try to compensate and counter balance the filter. The surface area is WAY to large and causes excessive wind resistance so again putting too much strain on the gimbal.

If you just want an ND for car or bike mounted shots with a suction cup it works great.

If using on Zenmuse H3-3D, you'll want to counterbalance with a heavy washer or other weight. It may work for you w/o but I found mine was far happier once I tucked a 1.5" brass washer on the back side under the rubber bands holding my GoPro. Also, makes footage from midday and brighter conditions far more likely to not be awful with a high shutter speed.

I purchased this for use with my DJI Phantom 2 and zenmuse gimbal and Hero4 Black edition. It wasn't listed as being intended for the Hero4 so I was wondering if it would work.

The Hero4 is already heavier than the Hero3 that the Zenmuse gimbal is designed for but it manages the weight just fine. Unfortunately, the weight of this filter puts it over the top and the gimbal wouldn't balance. I have seen people having good luck with attaching counter weights (small coins usually) to the gimbal to counter balance and I may try that. I'm just worried about the overall weight for the Zenmuse since it's already pushing it with the Hero4.

Other than that it seems to work fine. It attaches perfectly to the Hero4 and stays put. The overall build quality is a little on the cheap side but I'm assuming that's also for the benefit of saving some weight.

While it's not the best for my Phantom setup, I'll still hang on to it to use when my GoPro isn't on the drone.

This fit my Hero 3+ stock case a little loose and I had to put a piece of tape around the lens housing to add friction, but this is a really nice filter for using on an airplane. In bright daylight the prop was still smooth and blurred. No ugly lines.
