4.0 out of 5 stars More positives than negatives, June 27, 2010

First, let me say that if you are interested in this heart rate monitor watch, it is probably because you will be using it mainly for the heart rate monitor. However, I would have liked to see a LITTLE more flexibility to use it as both a heart rate monitor AND a watch at the same time. Perhaps I haven't quite figured out how to easily switch between the clock and the actual timers, but it isn't a big deal if you don't mind that. It's certainly not a deal breaker by any means.

I haven't dug into the features too much at this point, but I have used it for over 30 sessions of weight lifting and running, and everything works really well. Some people have said there is interference at times, but I have yet to run into anything like that. I rinse it off after every workout, and even washed it in the washer once already. So far, the strap itself has worked pretty well, though I wish it would stay up a little more in the back. I have a wide back so I can't really blame the strap, and having something resembling suspenders would be a little absurd. Additionally, when using it for weight lifting, because of the necessary location of the strap, it can get in the way on barbell benchpress, barbell bent rows, or other exercises that might come in contact with your lower chest.

The watch is light, and I like the color because it is never hard to find. Sure, it would look a little goofy to wear out and about as a general purpose watch, but this thing wasn't made for that. The buttons are all very easy to press, though sometimes the main lap button at the bottom (red button) has not read my perceived button press. Perhaps this is user error on my part, as I can't be positive because generally it is right after I finish a sprint that I press it. Your results may vary, but 98 out of 100 times, it works perfectly for me. I love the breakdowns and flexibility this thing gives, and it was nice to see it tell me that my fitness level was "elite."

Would definitely recommend for someone who wants the flexibility and precision of a great heart rate monitor watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Polar RX300x Orange, April 5, 2011

Well, it's been more than a month since I purchased this item and has worked well. The Polar wearlink is very confortable and can be adjusted to your chest size, plus you can change the battery yourself, not need to send it to polar factory. The instruction could be a little tricky but people learn more during practice than in theory. What I mean is, take your time to follow the booklet presing the different button and you will get everything in a very short time. For those who have experienced misreadout of your heart rates, it also happened to me. Sometimes I was doing easy cardio and my HRM would jump to 200 beats per minutes and I knew that was wrong, other times I would be doing really hard cardio and it would read zero 0. Well I read the trobleshooting portion of the instructions and it says that I must soak in water the wearlink and that I have to clean it everytime after use. I just run the wearlink under my faucet, dry with a towel a bit and that's it, it works perfect everytime, and I use it 5 times a week. I do not put it in the washing machine. Over all, it will help you understand if you are doing thisng right and not lacking and wating time during your cardio o exercise program.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wear link Fails, July 12, 2011

After using this HRM for about 2.5 months I started to have a lot of problems to link the wear link to the watch (I wash it as recommended in the instruction booklet). I have to get it soaked wet and try to start the stopwatch 4-5 times before it says "Signal Found". It's a nice device, when it works.
The beeps sound whenever they want. Sometimes it beeps when you start it, sometimes it doesn't. Same happens when navigating trough the menu. I expected a lot better from polar.

Expensive compared to others. After two months of use started getting erroneous heart rates (too high or too low). Changed battery and worked fine for just a week. Seems like I need to change the battery every week.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed, January 28, 2012
This review is from: Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Orange) (Sports)
The foot sensor only worked for one month. I changed the battery and still didn't work. And now only after a year the belt broked and here in Caracas you can't change it unless you bouht it here. And the same thing happened to one friend. It's the second time I buy a polar watch. The first time I went swimming with it the watch never worked again after that. I thought I just had bad luck and bought another one!! Shame on me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good, December 22, 2011

I was a little hesitant to get this watch, but it was a really great purchase. The monitor works great and it is very easy to use.
Right now I am only using the watch and keeping track of the workout on a spreadsheet instead of getting the extra link to connect to the website, but from what I see it looks like that link would be a good investment as well. I guess it all depends on how much you want to invest on monitoring your progress.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool for success!, August 30, 2009
This review is from: Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Orange) (Sports)
I bought this when I started losing weight to get a more accurate measure of my calorie burn since the machines in the gym always seem to be inflated! It has helped me ensure that my cardio puts me in the right heartrate zone and tracks my calorie burn for a week which lets me know if I am behind or ahead for weight loss that week so I can alter my program along the way! I love it!

I could not figure out how to display calories in real time. Checked the manual, it only mentioned that you can view calories in summaries after the workout. So I figured that's not an option.
A review here pointed out to me I'm wrong.
Here's how you do it: start-settings-display-edit <display mode>.
Spelling it out in the manual would be nice (judging by my internet search I'm not the only one having trouble with this). But that's a nitpick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Product, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Polar RS300X Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Orange) (Sports)
I purchased the Polar RS300X when I started my workout, and what a great idea it was. This watch is very easy to setup, and it really adds a lot to my workout. I love the way it tells you how many calories you burn in a single workout.
