Book Description

When Amber DeSoto sees northern lights on Ganymede, she knows something's wrong. No one will listen to an eighteen year old, though, even who's lived on Ganymede most of her life. But if anyone can survive the unexpected, it's Amber, and if the base commander won't listen to her, she might as well figure out how to save the base and its inhabitants on her own.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This was the first short story I ever sold, and it made my Clarion West class (2001) one of the only classes to have 100% of its students published in pro venues. Yes, I was the very last one. This story appeared in Polaris: A Celebration of Polar Science, a young adult, science fiction anthology that was edited by Julie Czerneda and released during the International Polar Year. It is still for sale on Amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mmm Jupiter! April 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Reading this book was like digging into my favorite kind of ice cream only to find that I was scraping the bottom and licking the sides way too soon. I enjoyed the story, but I wanted MORE.

I realize this was just a short story, but I had questions which could only have been nicely answered by a novel length. Em, write the rest of it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Liked the story but not the font March 4, 2012
By Bob
Format:Kindle Edition
Although for young adults the problem I had was not with the story but the font which with the spacing it did not make for easy reading (It looked like an old typewriter font)
It is not surprising that the heroine is a young person, Amber, but I think the story is aimed at the younger end of the market. I did get an 11 year old to read the story and although she liked it her question was "Why does Amber know so much more than the others" and I think this sums it up, every idea or inspiration comes from Amber despite the vast experience of others in the story. Because of this simplicity of plot this is a good short story and introduction to science fiction for children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Young Adult Science Fiction March 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although this story was geared to a younger reader, I found it interesting, with good character development.

It earned my 4-star rating because it was very well edited and formatted.
