Book Description

When Candice's in-laws were killed eight months ago buying a huge faux polar bear rug for her Christmas present, she lost more than just two of her favorite people: she lost her husband Ian as well. After only two years of marriage, their guilt and pain have left them living together but apart, unable to really talk for fear of what they'll say to each other.

Ian leaves for a month-long contract overseas, and Candice plans to use the time apart to decide whether her marriage can be saved. When her ex walks back into her life as the new client at work, ten years more attractive yet saddened by his own recent loss, she's left wondering what she really wants from life and love.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Really, really, really enjoyed this. Candice is real. She has everyday thoughts and problems and desires that all women have. She's not perfect and she makes mistakes. She also adds bits of humor to her narrative." - wwwbookbabe.blogspot.com

"Not only were the characters believable, fun, and easy to relate to, but the e-book itself was top notch. For an Indie author who does her own editing, there were few (if any that I can remember) grammatical or spelling errors. I'm astonished she offers it (still!) for free at bn.com - it's worth so much more than that." - heather.bishoffs.com

"Each [character] was well developed and three dimensional. I really felt like I knew them and I wanted to be friends with all of them!" - booksandstuff-kstar.blogspot.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, fun read April 11, 2011
Format:Paperback
I really liked this fun book. It's a fast-paced, well-written light romance that had me guessing what was going to happen right up to the end. Every time I was sure I had it figured out ... I didn't.

I thought the characters and their relationships were intriguing. I especially enjoyed the e-mail correspondence between the main character and her husband. Another thing ... I am not a regular reader or fan of the standard "romance novel" and that's not what this is (perhaps that's why I enjoyed it; ha!) One thing I have never liked about those novels is that, at least the ones I've read, they seem to over-rely on steamy sex scenes, to the point where it gets tedious, for me at least. Now, I am no prude, but I just don't particularly enjoy a lot of that in my literature. I was pleased to find none of that in this book. I enjoyed much more the fact that the author keeps bringing the reader "to the brink" of this, but that's as far as it goes. I find that much more interesting and exciting, since I am fully capable of using my imagination.

A bonus: if you have an e-reader, this book is free! For the Nook, find it at Barnes and Noble; for Kindle and other formats, visit the author's website. In any format, though, it's well worth reading if you enjoy a fun, modern-day, character-based story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story! November 30, 2010
By J. Barr
Format:Paperback
This is the first book I read from Heather Wardell, and I have since bought all of her books. I really enjoyed this book as a married 30-something. I was very happy with the way it ended, and I enjoyed the road the characters had to travel to arrive at that ending. A very good read!

I am just glad I didn't pay for this book. It wasn't that I didn't like the character, but the way she is written just makes women look bad. Overall this book is not well written with pages and pages of the character's internal struggle between her husband and ex-boyfriend. It seemed to be a pointless book that indulges in a bad way all those female quirks of crying too much, extreme indecision, and scary dependency issues. I think I kept reading just because I was hope the story would work itself out in a better way. It didn't happen. Don't waste your time even if this is just a guilty pleasure read.

More About the Author

Growing up, I was an avid (rabid?) reader. I am a natural speed reader, regularly clocked at about 1200 wpm (I read Harry Potter 5 in just under three hours).

After careers as a software developer and elementary school computer science teacher, in 2005 I took up the National Novel Writing Month challenge and attempted to write a novel in a month. I succeeded, and the first draft of my first novel "Life, Love, and a Polar Bear Tattoo" was the result. I realized I love writing. I left teaching, and I haven't looked back since!
