3.0 out of 5 stars Great working product but unable to read numbers
This Polar monitor is great for both the heart rate during exercise and the average. The calorie count is really what makes this interesting and fun, BUT- this is a big one for us baby boomers that need reading glasses- I can not read the numbers during exercise - the numbers are small and thin. The basic model that I owned before this one - that just did heart rate,...

I am completely in love with my new Polar F6! I purchased this product (at the recommendation of my trainer and Zumba instructor) to help me with my weight loss goals. The calorie counter especially is important to me, because if you know how many calories you're burning you know how many calories you can reliably eat and still lose weight. So far I think it's done a great job helping me make my workouts more efficient. I have not even had it a full month yet and am already beginning to see results.

I first tested this HR monitor against different exercise machines with HR grips available in my gym. The goal was to test the accuracy of the reported HR, and the HR reported by the F6 was exact every time. Even better, all of the machines received my HR directly from the transmitter whenever I used it, so I didn't have to hold onto any of the grips, allowing me to focus on my technique and keeping my HR within my chosen level. I haven't yet lost any weight in pounds, however because I have now been able to control several of my workouts to the most efficient fat-burning range, I am beginning to see more muscle definition and changes in my shape and the fit of my clothes, indicating fat loss - which is what I want! I have no doubt that my shape and weight will be where I want them to be in the very near future.

The unit itself is very easy to use. I would definitely recommend completely reading through the instruction booklet that comes with the unit at least twice through before using, to make your first use easier. I would also recommend using it for the first time during an easy workout, such as use of an elliptical machine, so you can change the controls at will and get used to using it. I found navigation through the different options to be very user-friendly, and I loved the backlight, which made monitoring my HR in the darkness of my spin class easy. The transmitter was also easy to use - the included elastic strap was more comfortable than I expected, and you barely know it's there once you get started.

I loved the fact that the F6 records your exercise files and can hold so many, and that you can view the information contained in so many different ways. In fact, the Files features were what made me purchase this one over the F4. The only thing I could possibly identify as negative at this point is that although you can delete your exercise files after uploading them to the Polar website (via your computer's microphone), you can only delete the daily files from the wrist unit one-by-one (instead of by batch), and though you can reset the total counters, your weekly summary files can't be removed. You basically have to wait for 12 weeks (when the File memory capacity is maxed and it begins recording over older files) for that data to be removed. For me, however, this is an almost forgettable issue, since I tend to look at my daily progress on the unit and my weekly progress on the Polar site anyway.

Overall the F6 is a great starter product at a great price. I am recommending it to anyone and everyone. It's got a lot of settings helpful to the first-time user, and they're very easy to use. I'm not sure what additional features are available on some of the higher-priced models, but this one perfectly meets my needs. Some of the other great features on this particular model include the ability to quickly upload your exercise data from the wrist unit directly onto Polar's Personal Trainer website, the ability to lock the buttons during your workout (important!), and ability to adjust your preferred HR zone during your workout without stopping recording. Again, I recommend this to anyone and everyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price, November 25, 2009

This review is from: Polar F6 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black Diamond) (Sports)
The women's Polar F6 heart rate montior watch has become one of my favorite geek toys. I enjoy the ability to not only monitor my heartrate, but to see how many calories I've burned and the duration of my workout. The only complaint I have is the chest band - its comfortable enough, but the "hooking" mechanism where the elastic band meets the chest band seem to pop off quite easily - especially during high intensity aerobic type classes where I'm moving around a lot. And once that band comes off, you have to reset your workout session - quite annoying. But I found that if I tuck the whole band under my sports bra it tends to stay in place.

This watch is a good heart monitor. I would have given it 5 stars but sometimes the heart rate reads zero (i.e. 00) during exercising.

hello!!! well, i purchased a polar heart rate monitor when i was pregnant with my first child. my doctor suggested that i do not exceed my heart rate over 140 when pregnant, so i bought one just to make sure i knew when to slow it down. its been 6 years and i finally had to purchase a second one because i made the mistake of changing my own battery on my original heart rate monitor. it worked beautifully until i took it swimming last week. i have become accustomed to working out with it because it gives me my target zone on how hard my heart should be pumping, along with the time. I just purchased the F6 model, which also give you a calorie counter, which is an added bonus. i highly recommend this watch to anyone who is wanting to get back into shape, who has flat lined on their workout, who is an athlete, or someone that just wants to track their fitness. it is worth every penny! there are times when i have gone months without working out and then get back in the gym to find out truly how hard my heart is working. a month later, that same workout will result in my heart beating much slower, which means i am getting back into shape! its not what the scale says, its how hard you workout and how quickly you recover. i love the calorie counter too because it allows me to see how much i have burned in that particular session. this is for everyone. buy it and you will see what i am talking about. the watch is slick enough too to wear for everyday, not just for working out. i am relatively small boned and its nice that the watch doesn't overpower my wrist like the older version did. only downside? you need to send it to an authorized polar dealer to change the battery, which only lasts about 1 1/2 years. and they get you on the price...i hope you like it as much i have have enjoyed my 2 watches!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars great HRM, January 30, 2006
for $100, its polar, very rugged and extremely useful in an uncomplicated way...gives you HR, max, average, % of times in zones, calories...and it stores all this stuff for a month. You get a lot of technology for not a lot of $$$, and Polar has the best product guarentee in the business

Although I am still learning the ins and outs... so far, I love my Polar F6. It is perfect for my needs. It is not too difficult and I can see my daily calorie expenditures and my weekly totals! The watch also allows me to see what percent of the workout I was at my optimal heart rate along with the max and mins.... I simply wanted to know how many calories I burn during an hour workout and this is perfect!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not suitable for spinning, February 3, 2010

This review is from: Polar F6 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black Diamond) (Sports)
I only use my new F6 for spinning, and it is completely unsatisfactory. The dial can not be read in a spinning class. I had the earlier version and it worked fine for several years, but this new and improved version is a waste of money.

This review is from: Polar F6 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black Diamond) (Sports)
This Polar monitor is great for both the heart rate during exercise and the average. The calorie count is really what makes this interesting and fun, BUT- this is a big one for us baby boomers that need reading glasses- I can not read the numbers during exercise - the numbers are small and thin. The basic model that I owned before this one - that just did heart rate, had thick large numbers and I could read them while on the treadmill or spinning bike. I wish Polar would have thought of this during development as it is a significant flaw in design. The functions of the monitor live up to the description, but I could not go higher than 3 star because of the numbers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for monitoring heart rate during aerobic workout, November 16, 2009

This review is from: Polar F6 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black Diamond) (Sports)
This watch is exactly what I was looking for. It helps me get the most out of my workout. I primarily use it during the cycling classes at the gym to maintain my heart rate in the fat burning zone to maximize my workout. I haven't had any problems with it so far. I understand the battery replacement in the chest strap must be made by the manufacturer, which will be a pain being without it until it is returned to me. I had a great experience buying it from Bodybasics.
