Product Features
|
The company also included two other Polar-exclusive features: OwnZone, which guides you through an appropriate warm-up routine and automatically determines a safe and effective exercise heart rate zone; and OwnCode, a technology that blocks unwanted crosstalk signals from other heart rate monitors nearby, ensuring your heart rate data is transmitted clearly. The latter feature is particularly helpful when exercising with other people, such as in aerobic or spinning classes.
The F7 offers most of the traditional fitness watch functions as well, including measuring your heart rate in both bpm and as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, gauging your average heart rate, calculating the number of kilocalories you've expended over several exercise sessions, tracking your cumulative training time during a week, and determining your total time in your target zone. Plus, you can use the built-in Fitness Exercise Diary to track the rest of your weekly training progress. The diary function monitors the weekly frequency, total time, total training count, and amount of calories burned during each training session. It also displays the intensities of your weekly workout sessions.
Other details include a Fitness Bullets feature that shows a bullet on the monitor's display for every 10 minutes you spend exercising/training in your target heart rate zone; SonicLink and UpLink ports, which let you upload exercise settings to your PC or Polar's web service and edit wrist unit settings respectively; HeartTouch button-free operation; a 24-hour clock with a day/week indicator; visual and audible target zone alarms; and a low battery indicator. Water-resistant to 50 feet, the Polar F7 carries a two-year warranty.
About Polar
Polar invented the first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the '80s. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, heart rate training is employed by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight, and Polar is the leading heart rate monitor brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide. The company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

Main difference between F7 and F6,
By Torc (Chicago, Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Polar F7 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Silver) (Sports)
As other reviewers have noted, the F7 comes with an elastic/fabric chest strap while the F6 comes with a plastic one. However, the difference between the F7 and F6 is not just the chest strap. The transmitter module (the part that snaps into the chest strap) that ships with the F7 is the Wearlink, which has a changeable battery, while the one that ships with the F6 is the T31, a sealed unit that has to be entirely replaced when the battery dies (after 2500 hours according to Polar, though some users report a shorter life). New Polar transmitters cost around $40-50, so spending the extra $10 now for the F7 should be cost effective in the long run. Polar is apparently phasing out the F6, probably because of consumer complaints about this very point. The watches for the F7 and F6 are the same except for color, which is why Polar ships the F6 watch manual with the F7.

A really great HR monitor!,

This review is from: Polar F7 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Silver) (Sports)
I purchased two other HR monitor watches prior to this and I have to say I definitely like this one the best. I was a bit apprehensive after reading reviews talking about the Polar line (complaints about not being able to change battery yourself, hard to figure out, etc). Since I just got this, the battery issue remains to be seen. But the watch is just great. I will admit to some frustrations initially in trying to make sense of the instructions in the manual when setting it up and doing the fitness test. However, a bit of persistance and just looking through things on the watch and I was able to get it all set up - and I am not a tech savvy person. That having been said, it works great, looks good enough to wear as a regular watch, provides you with lots of great info and feedback and is very accurate on heart rate. It is a great training tool. For example, I am trying to lose body fat as well as increase my fitness. For my different exercises, it lets me know what percentage of the calories burned came from fat calories. I was actually working out too hard all the time! So I have adjusted my workouts to maximize fat burning 3x a week, and cardio fitness 3x a week. There are lots of other examples that are in the product specs. It really does a lot. One last note, I purchased the "ice blue" version. It is not as "ice blue" as it appears on screen. I would say it's more of a flat colonial gray blue.

Good Heart Rate Monitor,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Polar F7 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Silver) (Sports)
I've had this about a month and I'm using it when I work out at the gym. It's easy to use once you get used to it. It took me about a week. It is compatible with all the cardio equipment at my gym. I don't have to look at the watch to see my heart rate. I like that it keeps up with my workouts for me. I keep a log online and if I forget how long I worked out and how many calories I burned....I only have to refer to the watch. The sensor detaches from the belt allowing the belt to be washed. I feel it was a good investment in my health.
