Main difference between F7 and F6,
By Torc (Chicago, Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Polar F7 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Silver) (Sports)
As other reviewers have noted, the F7 comes with an elastic/fabric chest strap while the F6 comes with a plastic one. However, the difference between the F7 and F6 is not just the chest strap. The transmitter module (the part that snaps into the chest strap) that ships with the F7 is the Wearlink, which has a changeable battery, while the one that ships with the F6 is the T31, a sealed unit that has to be entirely replaced when the battery dies (after 2500 hours according to Polar, though some users report a shorter life). New Polar transmitters cost around $40-50, so spending the extra $10 now for the F7 should be cost effective in the long run. Polar is apparently phasing out the F6, probably because of consumer complaints about this very point. The watches for the F7 and F6 are the same except for color, which is why Polar ships the F6 watch manual with the F7.

A really great HR monitor!,

This review is from: Polar F7 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Silver) (Sports)
I purchased two other HR monitor watches prior to this and I have to say I definitely like this one the best. I was a bit apprehensive after reading reviews talking about the Polar line (complaints about not being able to change battery yourself, hard to figure out, etc). Since I just got this, the battery issue remains to be seen. But the watch is just great. I will admit to some frustrations initially in trying to make sense of the instructions in the manual when setting it up and doing the fitness test. However, a bit of persistance and just looking through things on the watch and I was able to get it all set up - and I am not a tech savvy person. That having been said, it works great, looks good enough to wear as a regular watch, provides you with lots of great info and feedback and is very accurate on heart rate. It is a great training tool. For example, I am trying to lose body fat as well as increase my fitness. For my different exercises, it lets me know what percentage of the calories burned came from fat calories. I was actually working out too hard all the time! So I have adjusted my workouts to maximize fat burning 3x a week, and cardio fitness 3x a week. There are lots of other examples that are in the product specs. It really does a lot. One last note, I purchased the "ice blue" version. It is not as "ice blue" as it appears on screen. I would say it's more of a flat colonial gray blue.

Good Heart Rate Monitor,

I've had this about a month and I'm using it when I work out at the gym. It's easy to use once you get used to it. It took me about a week. It is compatible with all the cardio equipment at my gym. I don't have to look at the watch to see my heart rate. I like that it keeps up with my workouts for me. I keep a log online and if I forget how long I worked out and how many calories I burned....I only have to refer to the watch. The sensor detaches from the belt allowing the belt to be washed. I feel it was a good investment in my health.

Buy it yesterday! I love love love my Polar F7. Go for the F7 and not the F6, the chest strap is nicer. I will not go to the gym without this HRM! Very easy to use. There are a lot of features for those who like gadgets. Love it!Get it right now!

Very FRUSTRATED with POLAR,
This review is from: Polar F7 Women's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Silver) (Sports)
We purchased both the female and male version of this for Christmas and like the Polar Heart rate monitor. The watch is easy to use and the cloth bands make it worth the extra few dollars from the F6. However for the last several weeks we have tried to download our data to the Polar Web link (free tools for tracking workouts) and it has failed. We tried two microphones, multiple settings, two computers and none worked. We emailed Polar for help and no one ever responded (9 days ago). Since that is part of why we bought Polar.... it is very frustrating. I have given up.

Works fabulously so far,

I bought the Polar F7 a couple months ago and so far it does everything I bought it for with zero problems. The watch is easy to operate and program. I've even worn the heart rate monitor swimming and it functions fine (just be sure not to press buttons on your watch while under water. I imagine that would damage the watch). It's only been a couple months, but I'll update any change.

Calorie counter doesn't work,

I purchased this watch twice and returned it both times. I figured that the first watch that I receieved must have been defective, but unfortunately - it must just be the F7 model.I am an avid runner, and recently wore out an older Polar watch that I was using on my daily runs to monitor my heart rate and log my calories burned. My older Polar watch had worked flawlessly for years, always matching the heart rate readout on cardio machines at the gym and generally producing the same amount of calories burned per workout on cardio machines. I purchased the F7 as the replacement watch. My heart rate read out was significantly lower on the watch than on various cardio machines at the gym, and my calories burned was vastly lower (100-150 calories) per workout. I returned the first F7 watch after several workouts and exchanged it for another F7, only to have the same problems. I did some online research and found that this is a common compliant. I'm hesitant, but I think I'll be ordering the F6 next. So disappointing.

Love it!,

I got this HRM to use while running and other fitness activities. So far it works great and was exactly what I expected. The strap is cloth, so it is pretty comfortable. The online workout tracker is great because you can upload your watch data and keep track of all of your exercise. I highly recommend this one!

F7 An effective Heart Rate Monitor for running,

I was apprehensive when I purchased the heart rate monitor about whether it would be easy to use. I have never owned one before. I was considering the F6, but after reading the reviews thought that F7 would be more workable and it certainly has been. I bought the Polar Cardio Sports Bra at the same time because I didn't want to necessarily have to bother with the wearlink chest strap on a longer run. I have used the strap and it works well also. Both are easy to use by just moistening the contacts.I have not used the countdown timer, and I wish there was a regular alarm. I have been very satisfied with the diary function and being able to track weekly workout times and durations. I have had trouble with the ownzone function it does not seem very flexible and if I increase my rates of each level of workout intensity more than 10 bpm it shuts itself off when I am trying to set it and it will only stay within age specific zones and you can't deviate out of them. It has been a very helpful tool to help me train within a specific heart rate zone.

easy to set up,

I've been using my polar f7 heart rate monitor for about 3 weeks now and am very pleased with it. This is the first hrm that I have purchased and was not sure if I would like it. The watch was very easy to set up and toread after each exercise session. There are several other people in my group class that also have a Polar hrm and after class we compare our different results. I beleive it makes all of us work a little bit harder, a little competition goes a long way. The strap is very comfortable and I ususally forget it's even there. I would probably give it a rating of five stars, but don't feel I've been using it long enough to do so. |
