5.0 out of 5 stars Just as promised
After receiveing the $85 quote to repair my aging Polaris cleaner I knew it was time for a new one. With all the incentives on the 380 or 3900 I was going to go with the 380 which was actually cheaper (after incentives) than the 280 but I started asking around - mostly pool professionals - and all (8 for 8) recommeneded the 280 even if the price were higher...

3.0 out of 5 stars My Polaris keeps abusing itself
I purchased this at a vastly reduced price from Amazon in comparison to any of the pool stores in my area. This particular model was highly recommended to me by my pool guy. It was easy as can be to hook up. The only problem is that this Polaris continually abuses itself by strangulation on the hose. No matter how I sit it in the water by the morning it is all tangled...

We are happy with the purchase and I was able to save over $100 by buying off Amazon vs. any retail store. There were a few other online sites where it was $15-$20 cheaper but didn't have the reputation or # of stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pool cleaner, August 18, 2009
I have tried a number of pool cleaners. Kreepy Krauly was worthless - gets stuck in corners, wears out your pump faster because of its action, gets clogged easily. Dolphin - biggest waste of money I've ever seen, don't get me started. My neighbor has the Polaris 360 that works off the return line - he hates it, these "Lo-pressure" cleaners do not work well. So when I drained my pool to have it replastered, I decided to install a booster pump and new line so that I could have a Polaris 280. Best decision I ever made. Cleans pool great. By far the best pool cleaner out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Hayward for sure, July 18, 2008

I tried two different Hayward pool cleaners. Both were a big failure. This Polaris 280 works great. Once you get it adjusted to your pool and get the pressures set, it runs around just like it is supposed to (what a concept) Setup was very easy, getting it running in the pool is easy, and unloading the leaf bag is easy. I'll report back after I see if it lasts for a few seasons. It is simple in design so I don't expect problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as it has been for the past 10 years, March 20, 2010

I had to replace my old Polaris 180. I used it for 10 years and it was already over 8 years old when I bought the house. The 280 cleans the pool very well with minimum maintenance. I put a 12 inches nylon sock (6 for $1.00 at the dollar store) over the exit going inside the bag and change it every 3-4 weeeks. This way I do not have to clean the bag. The 280 has an easy to handle bag, a wider suction mouth and the back flow device to move it from places to places in the pool every 5 min. help to make a perfect job. Polaris sent me free of charge a G-9 coupler to hook it up from my old .75 inch pool wall return. Buying through Amazon at discounted price contributed to make it overall an excellent buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars No pool boy needed with this robot!, June 14, 2007

I just purchased my second Polaris 280. My first is still running but not as strong as when I first purchased it. However the thing works great. It does a nice job of stirring things up if it so the filter has a chance to work.

The one thing they don't tell you is they also sell these in black and while the first one I got with my pool was white, I have a a black gunite pool and it makes sense to have a black one.

The thing works like a charm and I can't say enough about it other than shut it off when changing the bag or you will get soaked.

It was easy as can be to hook up. The only problem is that this Polaris continually abuses itself by strangulation on the hose. No matter how I sit it in the water by the morning it is all tangled up. One time it even tangled so badly the entire hose came out of the hook up. When it is not a tangled mess it cleans the pool very well. Either way, having this beats the hell out of vacuuming the pool!

5.0 out of 5 stars Had mine since 1999, June 8, 2010
This review is from: Polaris Vac-Sweep 280 F5 Pressure-Side Automatic In-Ground Pool Cleaner (Lawn & Patio)
My Polaris 280 came with the pool in 1999. It has been extremely reliable. Sure I have had to replace a few simple parts--can get at [...] But I think the gears are worn and it is in need of a tune up at this time (after more than 10 summers use). When I fired up my pool this past week, the Polaris was not moving forward very well--but the darn thing still cleaned up the pool pretty good by just baking up every few minutes and randomly cleaning a new spot. I took it to the local pool dealer today for an estimate and probable repair. But if it is worn out, I'll buy another 280.

This is an excellent product. Construction is good and the product performs to 100% of my expectations. As an aside, this the third Palaris I have purchased over the years.

The polaris 280 is a fantastic machine. Easy to use and so efficient. I have not had to vacuum my pool for sand since I got it. It works so well, I've let the pool service go and am doing it myself. It work better than advertised and I highly recommend it. This is by far the best Polaris yet! As for the price I got on AMAZON.COM, well it could not be better. Much less than my local pool store with fast and free shipping.

Eighteen years ago I started with a POLARIS 380. I loved the product, a few years later it suffered damage from a grand-kid. I tried the POLARIS 360 it was a BIG step down. I recently replaced it with the POLARIS 280. It works as well as the 380 but has a significant cost advantage. I am VERY happy.
