Product Description

3900sport-main
The Polaris 3900 Sport pressure side pool cleaner (view larger).

The new and improved Polaris 3900 Sport delivers unmatched vacuum power, incomparable convenience, and legendary performance. It integrates the time-proven Polaris Classic series features you love with innovative new enhancements for added durability, reliability, and performance.

Legendary Performance

The Polaris 3900 Sport combines the dynamic appeal of a completely re-engineered body design with the most sophisticated features, producing maximum vacuum power and drive torque for quicker cleaning and fewer hang-ups. It features an all-wheel PosiDrive system with durable stainless steel drive chain that delivers 50 percent more torque for maximum speed and performance.

Incomparable Convenience

Equipped with a dual-chamber zippered SuperBag, the Polaris 3900 picks up and stores more debris, making cleaning easy and less frequent. It also features innovative auto-reverse technology, which enables it to free itself if it gets stuck.

The 3900 Sport pressure cleaner works in all in-ground pools, and requires a booster pump. It supplements the pool's filtration system by circulating an additional 40 gallons of water per minute through its filter bag.

Extreme Sweeping

The 3900 Sport now includes TailSweep PRO, an advanced sweep hose enhancement that blows debris out of corners and hard to reach places, while also keeping water from spraying outside the pool. No more wet windows or walkways.

Unmatched Power

Powered by a booster pump (sold separately, such as the PB4-60), the 3900 Sport has the most vacuum power of any cleaner. It picks up even the largest debris, while filtering and ciruclating water for a cleaner, clearer pool in less time. Combine the 3900 Sport with the PB4-60 booster pump for maximum performance.

We upgraded from the Polaris 380 to the Polaris 3900--big mistake...First of all, it won't clean the shallow end of the pool. It constantly gets stuck on the drain at the bottom of the pool and when it climbs the wall, it will tip over on its side. It has been in the shop more than it's been in the pool over the last year. I really think Polaris just failed on this one. The 380 worked great--the only reason we upgraded was because it was getting old and in need of repairs. We are now considering upgrading to the 9300--I'm skeptical though...I'm afraid we will encounter some of the same issues.

Very disappointed in this pool cleaner: the drive wheel kept falling off and the zipper bag is very difficult and time consuming to clean: the zippers get fouled with debris. Many new features but poorly implemented: a big disappointment

I did give it one star for good looks: if it only worked as well

The cleaner did not seem to be able to climb as well as my old 380
I returned the 3900 and bought a new set of tires for my 380

I wish I had seen these reviews BEFORE I let our pool guy talk us into upgrading. Our Polaris 3900 Sport had to be returned to Polaris shortly after purchasing it to replace some defective part that our pool guy was aware of before we bought it. The tail keeps coming off, the Polaris turns over on its side when it is full and that causes a hole in the $45 bag! I think we should mount a petition to force Polaris to replace these lemons!

We "upgraded" a year ago from the 380 to the 3900. Our 380 had been a real workhorse but had started to require a lot of new parts and such after about 7 years of use; so I figured "time to upgrade." What a mistake. The 3900 has the following positive attributes:

- Looks cool

It has the following negative attributes:

- Has been broken 3 times during the year: A broken axle and twice the "better" chain drive has come off of the double side wheels

- Spends a lot of time on its side and getting tangled in its own hose

- Does not climb nearly as well as the 380 did, doesn't clean the steps of my pool because it does not climb up there

- Has a double compartment bag that is far more difficult to clean than the 380, and has zippered closures that bind and generally create headaches

- Is more expensive than the 380

Generally, I'm disappointed that I bought this thing. It has literally been a downgrade. I took the rebate from Polaris and had to turn in the chassis of my old 380, otherwise I'd probably just put it back in the water.

I can't in any good conscience recommend this lemon. Polaris should offer me a replacement.

It's a sporty neat looking vacuum which is no doubt why it sells. READ THE REVIEWS, DON'T BUY ONE! and be smart unlike us bunch of dummies who did buy one! What an overpriced piece of crap. You may get one season out of it, repair, repair and then give up and buy something else. Send a message and DON'T BUY ANOTHER POLARIS ANYTHING!!!!! Better yet class action lawsuit to recoup our money thrown in the dumpster?

Bought this to replace my shark cleaner which kept failing after 6 months. Spent 900 bucks before rebate and got this really cool looking, space age cleaner. Started working ok for a month, then I found ball bearings in the pool and the drive mechanism was toast. Called Polaris and they would only repair... No exchange. Took it in and was told tis is happening across the board. After a week they fixed it. It worked again for a month and now spend most time on it side wheels or half floating above the pool floor. Believe the reviews, this is a piece of junk. The older less glitzy Polaris units are workhorses... Operative word being ...WORKhorse. Save your money.

I decided to get a new cleaner to replace my 5-year-old 280. I was tired of replacing parts and I was hoping that progress had been made in climbing and cleaning ability. I was impressed by the looks of the 3900 Sport and the description of its steel mechanism. So I plunked down 899 bucks and took it home.

I was disappointed to realize that this cleaner requires more pressure to power it than the 280. I took apart the wall receptacle and removed the blue flow limiting device. Now the wheels spun at the appropriate speed. The cleaner did climb OK but not better than my old cleaner. The bag has two compartments that open/close with zipper. This is harder to clean than the old 280 design. The worst thing is a design flaw associated with the tail hose. The hose attaches to a plastic nozzle that rotates to control the amount of water pressure/tail movement. Unfortunately, the tail's sweeping movement repeatedly turned the flow off after a few minutes. Tail movements would basically stop until I reset the nozzle. This occurred over and over. This nozzle also seemed flimsy and I wonder how well it would hold up over time.

I returned the 3900 for a refund. I bought a few parts for my old 280. After restoring my old cleaner it worked like new and better overall than the 3900.

The 3900 looks good and I like the idea of the steel internals, but in the end this is NOT an improvement from the 280 and I would avoid the 3900.
