Ideal for offices, apartments, dorms, or bedrooms, Polaroid's LCD-1700 LCD TV produces exciting, perfectly flat widescreen images while occupying minimal desk or shelf space. The 17-inch television includes an NTSC tuner for immediate off-air reception, and it's configured in a 16:9 aspect ratio that matches most HDTV broadcasts and movies. It boasts 1,280 x 768 native pixel resolution and accepts both standard-definition (480i) and--through its component-video inputs--enhanced-definition (480p) signals. Further, the screen renders VGA/XGA PC signals via a rear-panel 15-pin D-Sub input.

With its high, 400:1 contrast ratio, impressive 450 cd/m2 brightness rating, and onboard digital comb filter (which separates the color signals to minimize dot crawl and blurred edges), the set's sharp, focused images look great irrespective of their source. The screen's super-wide, 176-degree viewing angles give everyone in the room a great view.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and--at a mere 22 pounds--light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be more affordable than their flat-panel plasma counterparts, which often (though not always) offer faster response times and higher contrast ratios.

Other connections include an RF coaxial antenna/video input and 1 each composite-video, and S-video inputs with 1 stereo analog (left/right) RCA audio input between the component-, composite-, and S-video jacks.

The LCD-1700 also offers stereo speakers with 1.5 watts per channel (x 2), a sleep timer, a headphone jack for private listening, and a full-function remote control.

I have been shopping around for a 17 LCD/TV and could not make up my mind. I searched all over the Internet and thought I had a good idea of what I wanted. I saw the Polaroid 1700 a few months ago but was not impressed with the specs on it just by reading it. That all changed when I saw it in person! I compared it in person with about 30 other LCD TV's and all I could say was "SWEET"! The picture just blew me away! I was in love with it! I compared it to the others and there was no comparison! Since I loved it so much I looked at the 20 but it was not a widescreen and only had 4:3 aspect ratio. I never liked widescreen TV's (being all programs are broadcasted in 4:3) but this TV gives you the opportunity to change the aspect ratio, I never read that in any of the online reviews. It is a perfect bedroom TV to watch your widescreen DVD's and also switch it over to the TV tuner and watch the 4:3 ratio. It does not stretch it out and distort it like a lot of other TV's. For the features and the AWESOME picture, it is well worth the money. Compare it and you will not find a better one in this class. I would say the only downfall is the bulky size and weight. But it still looks SWEET! I recommend this product highly! Mind you I am a VERY picky electronics person. I hope this helps.

We have been researching and found that Polaroid has come out with a 26 inch and a larger flat screen lcd tv. We were able to get a 26 inch for 899.00 and it is downright great. Easy to set up, easy to maneauver the remote and the picture is astonishing. We saw it compared to other much higher priced and there was even better streamlining, design and definition with the Polaroid. We saved about 1,000.00 at the least in going with this Model compared to other higher priced such as Sharp, Sony. in this size. We also saw the larger model next to a plasma. Same if not better picture!!

A massive scale of LCD-1700 tv are being sent to repair shops due to the cheap technology and quality Polaroid is making. After manufacture warrantee 1 year, goes out then ur screwd.

Buy name brand because its better quality and better tech support. Dont buy what walmart sells basically.

Stick to Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Sony.
