Check the cord??,
This review is from: Polaroid PDV-0701A 7" Portable DVD Player (Electronics)
The player works okay but we have had problems with the cord, and had to order a new one. It has been an extra expence, we didn't plan to replace the cord in less than a year. Even with that our girls have been very rough on the player (dropping it, spilling stuff on it...) and it doesn't seem to have any problems. We would buy this item again if we were sure our first cord was just faulty and not something that happens all the time.

I bought this for travel, and it has cured hours of boredom on the plane. We also use it in our bedroom.
Pro: -Inexpensive -Good balance of screen size, weight, bulkiness -No difficulties playing discs or reliability -Surprising picture quality -Options you'd expect like closed captioning -Using the headphone jack automatically mutes the speakers as a courtesy to those around you Con: -I find that the battery is inadequate and can run out on long movies, partial charges or when using scan, rewind, and other similar features a lot -Power switch can be turned on accidentally as there is no hold switch that's common on most portable electronics -Only one headphone jack -No remote control Tip: -I think power lasts the longest if you leave a spare external battery connected at all times... waiting until the main battery dies and then plugging in the battery I think works less effectively Bottom line: a good item that I recommend, but only if you buy at least one extra external battery.

I bought this DVD player before taking my four year old son on a long train ride (27 hours). I received it from Amazon right before the trip, I did not have time to check to see if it worked, I just charged the battery and packed it in my carry-on. When I tried to play a movie on it, it read the DVD fine, and the sound worked fine, but the screen did not work at all!!
I adjusted the contrast and brightness and everything, and I tried different DVD's, and the screen still did not work!! The screen was all black with just shadow's moving across it. I tried it a few more times after reaching my destination and the day before we got back on the train, and it worked once. As soon as I got home, I sent it back to Amazon and I am awaiting a credit for it. I would not recommend this DVD player.

i purchashed this item so i could play my video game consoles on it, and wish i had gave more thought into buying it , although its led and capable of the av in/out switch i really wanted. its small and would have spent a little more money on a portable dvd player that has a bigger screen and more light weight, because it is portable...it needs to be light weight to carry along!! i should have really gave this 2 stars but its my fault for buying a 7".

I rarely give bad revues, but my experience with this DVD & a digital camera were so bad that I say two thumbs down to Polaroid.
I had an Initial and my daughter used it constantly for about a year. Then one day somebody stole it. I must have not locked the doors. :-( This Polaroid was the replacement for that Initial. I used it once or twice and was unimpressed. By then the little one was more interested in the conversation in the car and she never used it. It sat safely in my closet for about 1 year. When I took it of of the shelf and tried to use it there was no picture. The warranty was only for 90 days so I'm stuck. They offered to swap it out for $100. I can buy a new replacement for less! I thought that this one was kinda thick & clunky and I really didn't like it much. I had a Polaroid digital camera which was very difficult to use and took lousy pictures, so they let me down twice. I had a few of their film cameras which were great, but based on these two items, I'll be getting a different brand replacement.

and in my case, it was free. Our company gave it to employees for Christmas '04. I only use it on long flights or train rides, about once a month, and it still works just fine. The only problem I've had, aside from the short battery life, is that the battery doesn't seem to fit very securely and I have to be careful when moving the unit while it's playing, or I loose power. I use it with high-quality digital headphones, and the sound is great. I like that its wide screen, since all my movies are in that format for my home TV. I don't use it for CD's because I have an iPod, so I don't know how well, or bad, it plays CD's. But all-in-all, its not a bad DVD player.

I have been very happy with this product. My only complaint is that the cable for the car seems to be loose (or has a short?). Movie can stop playing while in route. Recommendations: Speakers could be a little louder. Wish product had a carrying case.

I bougt this DVD player at target. But who would ever use it?! It worked with 1 DVD then pfff..that was the last one. Ever since, it has not read a single DVD,CD or MP3! I have had it less than 1 year so I am returning it for a replacement. Hope that one works!

I bought this item and it worked perfectly fine. When I received my Xbox 360 I was planning to take it on the road and play it on the DVD player. The only problem was, unlike most DVD players, it did not have any where to plug it at. So if you are planning to play your PS2,XBox, or other consoles don't but this product.
