Ideal for international travel, the PDV-1002A's auto-sensing power supply accepts everything from AC 100V/50 Hz to AC 240V/60 Hz, letting you charge the supplied lithium-ion battery just about anywhere (it's a good idea to check the power standard and socket type for your international destination first).
At a mere 2 pounds (without the battery), you won't have to break your back to lug the player around. The PDV-1002A includes ESP (electronics shock protection) to ensure uninterrupted viewing and listening. View family snapshots from JPEG image-encoded CDs while minimizing the number of music discs you tote by taking advantage of the unit's playback abilities with MP3-encoded CD-R and CD-RW, each of which can pack about 10 albums' worth of music.
You can plug the PDV-1002A into your home theater receiver and your television using the player's composite-video output and the included audio/video interconnect larger-than-life entertainment. Want to listen in Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround? Connect an optical digital-audio cable (not included) between the PDV-1002A and your compatible surround receiver and multichannel speaker system to listen to movies and concert videos in enveloping surround sound.
The rechargeable battery is good for up to 3 hours of use between charges and a total of about 300 charges. Built-in stereo speakers powered by 1 watt apiece give you a choice of listening through the device itself, through headphones, or through your home system (when connected). You can watch and/or listen with a companion, too, as the player offers not one but two headphone jacks. (Headphones are not included.)
What's in the Box
DVD player, a remote control, a remote battery, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, audio/video cables (stereo analog audio/composite-video), a DC vehicle power adapter, an AC power adapter, a carrying bag, and a user's manual.

Fragile Product by inept company,

This review is from: Polaroid PDV-1002A Portable DVD Player with Rotat ing 10 Inch LCD Screen (Electronics)
This DVD player is a better version of the Petters Company products. Prior to this version their products were faulty and generally very sensitive and fragile. This version seems to be less likely to fail after 50+ hours of use. HOWEVER:
The screen is very fragile and this portable DVD player obviously needs to be handled very carefully. I don't know about the rest of you, but I needed this DVD player for travel. How careful can you be to it while it is in a bookbag, backpack or purse? The company, Petters is incompetant, and inept. After three months of negotiations after returning a defective DVD player to them, they lost my address, lost the DVD player I sent back, they sent me the wrong DVD player, they never sent me return labels for the initial DVD player, and I was forced to pay for the return process!! Besides being annoying, long, tedious and tiresome, this process was irritating and unnecesary. If you for some reason need to return you DVD player, do not go through this company, as they are obviously still working out the kinks in customer service. If your considering purchasing this product, keep in mind the company warrentee, and plan on getting a service plan or another product with better customer service to back it up. Also be aware of how little damage this item can take.

Disappointed,

I bought this little unit for my children for Christmas, and within the first month, I would have given it five stars. At some brick-and-mortar stores you can still get the players with small screens, but when the screens are that small, any increase in size is significant. Anyway, this unit has a nice appearance, and gave us no problems when watching the DVDs.
However, after about a month and a half, the unit suddenly went dead. I tried contacting the company's on-line support, but repeated e-mails produced *NO* response. I finally called their support number, and was informed that the unit is no longer under warrantee, but that for a wee fee (about half price) they will replace the unit. So, overall, I am pretty disappointed. Will I pay for a new unit? I just don't know, that's a lot of money for 1.5 months worth of DVD watching. Overall, I do not recommend this unit. Also, if you DO get this unit, ignore the on-line support and call in right away, so you do not fritter away your warrantee time like I did!

Great bang for the buck!,

After a tremendous amount of research (both web & hands-on) and with extreme trepidation not buying a "named" unit.
I purchased this 3 weeks ago, primarily to entertain a young child travelling on a long trip overseas. The player has performed flawlessly while enduring multiple long flights, car rides and other events. I have been impressed with the quality & loudness of the speaker sound (although "The Wiggles" are not exactly the most robust test) as well as the brightness & clarity of the screen. I was not thrilled with the instructions regarding battery usage (aka charging times & draining the battery), but for the price and the performance, I think as consumers you have to realize that compromises are part of getting a great price. Quite frankly, the complaints of the reviewer about screen rotation & weight, while accurate in pointing out some of the product's limitations.....are, in my mind, extremely nitpicky when you are getting a 10 inch plus screen for the best price on the market. This is no long-term use review....but after 3 weeks...this player has performed above and beyond for the price point and I would recommend to anyone looking to purchased a portable DVD player.
