I've written a few reviews which others find helpful and I've received many, many positive comments deeming my reviews helpful. I always attempt to write what I find good about a product and what needs work or simply isn't right about a product, and describe why.

The best advice I can give other consumers regarding this Polaroid PhotoMax digital camera is to advise you...

I had been looking at digital cameras for several months when I ran across the Poloriod PhotoMAX PDC 1100 here at Amazon. I was a little skeptical as I had not seen it in any B&M stores and I already knew I liked the Olympus 360L, but I decided that for the price, I would try it and if I didn't like it I would just return it and get the Olympus. I am very happy I decided to try the Polaroid first. I love the single button control and full function menu. It is so easy to operate that even my 7 year old can take great pictures. In the week that I have been using it, I have gotten some wonderful pics and was delighted with the detail and clarity of the prints. There are 4 resolution settings, option of color or B&W, 6 focus settings, time/date imprinting, and 2 LCD light settings. The software has little documentation included, but it is really self explanatory, and I have found Polaroid to be more than willing to answer my questions. Also, I can use the software with my scanner and digital microscope as well as the camera. The USB connection is one of the best features, as it reduces download time signficantly and makes the purchase of a card reader unnecessary. I can download the entire 4 mb card almost instantly with this camera, where as with other camera's serial connection it can take as much as 10 minutes. I would recommend purchasing a larger memory card, but a 16 mb should cost less than the $50 rebate and, when combined with the 4 mb included, should be adequate for most users. This package also includes an AC adapter ($50 for most cameras), serial and USB cables, NTSC cables for viewing pics on your TV, a soft carry case, wrist strap, 4 AA batteries, 4 mb compact flash card, camera, and software. I would recommend this camera to anyone in the market for a quality digital camera. Whether you want to replace your 35mm or just publish to the web, the Polaroid PhotoMax PDC 1100 is a wonderful camera with a wonderful price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great camera for the price!, May 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1100 1.2MP Digital Camera Creative Kit (Electronics)
This camera is a great buy for the money with a maximum resolution of 1,152 x 864 pixels and a great LCD monitor. The high resolution for this price range provides a slightly better picture quality than a 35mm. The pictures are quite stunning and detailed. I have one recommendation for anyone buying this camera, buy a 8mb card. The 4mb provided card works fine but only provides 12 pictures on the "high" picture setting(1152 840) and just 6 pics on "super"(1040 1040). So I'd buy at less an 8mb if not 16+mb card. This camera is very simple to use with only one botton controling the menu. The software provided is pretty good and can greatly improve the quality of your pictures. I really enjoy this camera and recommend it for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Digital Camera Kit Comes Complete, May 30, 2000
This review is from: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1100 1.2MP Digital Camera Creative Kit (Electronics)
I purchased the Polaroid PDC1100 digital camera and would recommend it to anyone. I like the complete package. AC Adapter, USB connecting cable, Camera Case & TV connecting cable are all included. Since purchasing the camera I have spoken to tech. support at Polaroid. They are extremely helpful. But most important is the quality of the pictures you will get with this camera. I have in front of me beautiful printed pictures taken with this camera. If your looking for a moderate priced camera I recommend this Polaroid

I've written a few reviews which others find helpful and I've received many, many positive comments deeming my reviews helpful. I always attempt to write what I find good about a product and what needs work or simply isn't right about a product, and describe why.

The best advice I can give other consumers regarding this Polaroid PhotoMax digital camera is to advise you not to purchase it.

I can only speculate that the other reviwers here who gave this cameras good reviews have not had a digital camera with similar features and functions to compare it to.

The good thing about this package is the easy to use software, the USB and parallel port attachments (most digital cameras provide either one or the other, not both) and as I can think of nothing more positive, the best I can say is that it's better than nothing.

I've had many problems. The worst problem of all is that it takes rotten pictures. I don't know of any consumer who would purchase a digital camera desires off center, fuzzy photographs.

Of more personal expense, I've lost photographs which were priceless to me. I used this camera last Easter and only 2 of 16 were of merely decent quality, and those two were the best of the bunch, being just barely average.

I'm in the mindset now to know to NOT bring the PhotoMax if my pictures are "important", which is a sad testimony to its effectiveness.

I've also missed a lot of good pictures because sometimes when you turn the camera on, it turns off by itself before you can take the picture. Also, this camera takes the photo more than a second after you've pressed the shutter button. When photographing children or pets, that's all the time they need to move out of the view finder, so you take a picture wait a long while for the flash to shoot then the shutter opens even later. This is not a good thing. Even when my "models" are posed and still, photos have come out blurry.

I really hate writing bad reviews and fortunately for me, almost all my other reviews are good. My purpose in sharing my observations here are to prevent the frustration and sadness I have experienced

I hope that this review has been helpful. I'm sorry to have written about the camera's poor quality, but in a like manner am pleased to think that I've saved you anguish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Easy to Use, November 30, 2000

This review is from: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1100 1.2MP Digital Camera Creative Kit (Electronics)
The Polaroid PDC 1100 is my first digital camera. I am a "point and shoot" autofocus kind of person, recently using an APS camera, and before that a 35 mm. Within a couple of hours of taking the PDC 1100 out of the box I was e-mailing pictures to family. Clarity is great, works well with a 16 MB compact flash card (60+ pictures on VGA setting). The all inclusive kit has all the cables and software you'll need, plus an AC adapter and high quality alkaline batteries. Skip getting a flash card reader unless you're really impatient - the camera works fast enough, about 30 seconds to download a photo. The TV display option with this camera is a hoot, and brings the era of vacation slide-shows for friends and families into the 21st century....

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pics, needs optical zoom, July 12, 2000

This review is from: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1100 1.2MP Digital Camera Creative Kit (Electronics)
Wow, I just got this thing, and Ive taken tons of pics with it already. The pictures are great. I used to have a 640x480 camera which was ok, but this one is much better. I love the lcd viewfinder. Theres nothing like being able to view the pictures on the spot. People really like that. Pictures are as good as or better than my friends kodak dc215. Super easy to use too. One thing, get a card reader for your computer. No need to hook the camera up, just pull the card and plop the pics to your harddrive in no time. Also get a bigger card. 4mb is a waste of time. I got a 32 meg and can fit about 100 pics at the high setting. Also rechargeable batteries are a must. You can get 4 ni-mh batteries and a charger from radio shack or ebay for like $20. I would have bought these things for any camera that I got so its no reflection on this cameras options. It actually comes with a lot and the usb hookup is a big deal. Try downloading 100 pictures over a serial interface. Can you say take a nap. I do wish it had an optical zoom, though, like the dc 215. Its really a nice option. But with the $50 rebate and I had a $20 amazon coupon, it cant be beat. Great pics, easy to use and great price. I only left out one star because of the no zoom thing. Other than that, Im very happy with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars The good, the bad, and the ugly, August 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1100 1.2MP Digital Camera Creative Kit (Electronics)
I'm on my second Polaroid PDC1100 camera. I have had so much trouble with my first system that Amazon has been kind enough to replace first the USB cable, and eventually the entire kit. The camera worked beautifully at first but then I had trouble 1)getting my computer to recognize a connection with the camera, 2)getting pictures into the software either by the serial or USB connection, 3)battery low-life (I'm talking 10-15 pictures! Then the camera shuts down despite the battery tester indicating that the brand new batteries are fully charged). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software to no avail. This is very frustrating because the camera and software do a beautiful job, it's just very tricky to get it to work. The editing software is very good, when I can get pictures into the system. Even with the replacement camera and software I still can not load photos into the software. I'm not giving up because all the good things other reviews say are true. But new buyers be forwarned that there MAY be some problems too. I must say that Amazon has been fantastic trying to help, however.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review for Polaroid PDC-1100, June 8, 2000
This review is from: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1100 1.2MP Digital Camera Creative Kit (Electronics)
A megapixel camera with USB connection for [this price]!(after rebate) I was sold! The USB connection is lightning fast compared to other digital cameras. serial connection. My only gripe is the color quality isn't always that great, but overall the camera is a must buy, especially for web designers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Inexperienced Digital User, June 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1100 1.2MP Digital Camera Creative Kit (Electronics)
This is my first camera, so I have no basis for comparison. But I do like it and believe that it is a great deal ($ wise). As yet I am wondering if the digital zoom isn't wasted capacity. It would appear that the photo editor is capable of cropping the picture. There is no help in the manual for attaching photos to email. A frustrating omission, when this was my principal reason for buying. I was able to work through this, however, by reading the FAQ's on Polaroids web site. My compliments to Polaroid for being the only source, that I could find, for not trying to "Rip off" their customers by withholding the AC adapter until the user is forced to purchase it at an extravagant price.

4.0 out of 5 stars First Digital Attempt, October 24, 2000

This review is from: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 1100 1.2MP Digital Camera Creative Kit (Electronics)
Two months ago I couldn't even say "Digital Camera". Like most everyone I searched for info on the internet. After looking and studing for a couple of months I chose the Polaroid PDC 1100. I have been extremely pleased. Less than fifteen minutes out of the box I shots my first photos. The camera is an excellent buy for the first time digital user. Everything you need is included even the batteries. The manual is concise and easy to understand. The only reason I did not give the camera five stars is the software is not quite as powerful as I would liked to have seen. I was not able to rename the .jpeg files to make them easier to use. I did purchase another software...and it does everything I wanted, plus the other software had a...rebate so in essence it was free. The 1100 is an exceptional buy...from Polaroid (and) made my purchase a very pleasant experience.
