5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Stabilizer For the Money October 11, 2011

I just got this stabilizer to have in case I need something smaller than my regular shoulder rig(which has matte box, follow focus, monitor and is much heavier). This thing works great! I'm only using it with my DSLR without accessories, and I can keep the footage very stable while standing still, panning and tilting. It's also easy to rack focus without shaking the camera. There is no way I could do a better job if I were to use the Zacuto Striker($789.00), which looks and acts about the same. The Striker may handle more weight before the clamps slip, but who wants a weighted down rig like this anyway. It'll be great for the park with the kids, festivals, etc. You can't beat it for the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price December 7, 2011

This stabilizer is great for the 50 dollars i spent on it! Uses the standard 15mm Rod system so is cross compatible with other items.

I do Video DSLR work so using this as a quick stabilizer for running around and getting quick shots without setup time (like with a monopod/tripod) works out pretty well. It can be a bit hard to balance if you don't add points of contact. I focus with my left hand on the lens, right hand on the handle, shoulder pad where it should be and with a Viewfinder i have a 4th point on my eye.

All-metal construction, even the hinges, quick release plate, everything is metal. I am honestly surprised there are not that many reviews for this thing out there.

Easily holds my Canon T2i/550D with a midrange zoom lens and videomic no problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent stabilizer for a hell of a price February 17, 2012

While a Zacuto product, or Red Rock Micro will cost you somewhere around ten times the price of this product, the budget shooter will happily make due with this guy. It's sturdy. Made out of metal. Not too heavy. Tactile feel is one of the best. Unlimited ways to adjust lengths and angles on this thing. The chest pad is firm and tight.

Results will vary depending on how you use it. My shots are still somewhat jerky, but propping the camera against my body helps stabilize in general. My only complaints are the handle grip still swings with enough force applied to it, despite how tightly I've wound the screw. And the screw mount I attached a manfrotto quick release plate to, with a magi arm attached to that, effectively making the camera mount compatible with other plates and providing my left hand with a makeshift handle.

No denying it has limitations. Ideally you'll be shooting from shoulder height with this thing. Running, or walking with it is as good as not owning it. I can only walk very slowly while maintaining stabilization. Panning and tilting using your torso for a pivot point is limited. You can use this to get higher shots too. Using the grip (or two) you can raise it above your head. In the end its not the tool but how you use it that matters most.
