5.0 out of 5 stars Makes ironing more convenient.
This board is wider making it more convenient for pressing while sewing and quilting. The iron holder is very conveniently placed and it is to easy to park the iron without it falling on the floor. I am happy with this purchase!

3.0 out of 5 stars ironing board
very stable, very wide, takes special ironing board cover... an additional expense. Also, must take new larger storage area into consideration, will not fit where standard board fits. Otherwise, it's great!

4.0 out of 5 stars An Ironing Board with "Features"?, May 6, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Polder 1751w-69 Deluxe 51 by 17-Inch Ironing Station, Grey/Metalic Grey (Kitchen)
Ok, let's be realistic: Ironing boards are not supposed to have features. Ironing boards are supposed to be difficult to work with and be just a slab of wood covered by a cloth. That's it, end of story.

WRONG! This ironing board is very versatile. It can be set to different heights which makes it excellent for ironing while sitting down in front of the TV.

There is an extension cord built into the ironing board which allows you to plug in your iron closer to you. This makes it easier to maneuver your iron.

Additionally, there is that really nifty silicone iron holder that allows you to put the iron heat-side down without burning or melting anything. This is really cool, and I played with this for quite a bit (I'm weird like that).

Underneath and all around the board are places to hang clothes that have been freshly ironed. And, under the main board, there is a wire tray that allows you to put your folded clothes.

Opening and closing this ironing board is a cinch: Just press the leaver on the underbelly and raise or reduce the height. The leaver also works as a locking mechanism so that the board doesn't accidentally open when moving it around your house.

The only negative: my cats are afraid of it, and I don't know why.

This ironing board is nice and wide so you don't have to keep moving the clothes. I have always had a cheap ironing board, and a cheap iron, didn't really iron much. Now I love to iron, it's so much better than the wobbly old thing I had before. I also purchased a new iron, spent around $80, a lot of money for me but my gosh what a difference!! It is well worth the money! I should have done it years ago and not had the frustration of a cheap iron and board. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the pad could be a little thicker ( I added an extra layer of pad, which can be picked up at any fabric shop, use the existing pad as a template) but it is still a great deal!

1.0 out of 5 stars iron holder, August 29, 2007
This review is from: Polder 1751w-69 Deluxe 51 by 17-Inch Ironing Station, Grey/Metalic Grey (Kitchen)
The iron holder did not leave enough room for adding a thick cover. the solution would be to leave at least one inch from the ironing board, or have the iron holder removable. I had to saw the iron holder 0ff to fit a thicker cover. The plug for the iron cord extension is in an awkward place. This information comes from my wife who has been ironing for 53 years. Thank you, and please call me on 239-454-6856 if you need additional information.

4.0 out of 5 stars $60 very expensive to finally get a non rickety ironing board, April 3, 2007
This review is from: Polder 1751w-69 Deluxe 51 by 17-Inch Ironing Station, Grey/Metalic Grey (Kitchen)
It's big, a little heavy and wide. It opened up perfectly and everything looks a-ok. The price is way too expensive but a nonshakey board is a new experience. I like it.

lAST WEEK MY OLD FRIEND DIED, I CAME HOME FROM SHOPPING TO FIND THE IRONING BOARD I HAD HAD SINCE I WAS MARRIED 38 YEARS AGO COLLAPSED AND DEAD IN THE DINING ROOM!! MOST PEOPLE I KNOW THINK I AM CRAZY THAT I EVEN OWN AN IRON LET ALONE AN IRONING BOARD AND THAT I ACTUALLY USE BOTH OF THEM. I DO ALOT OF SEWING AND NEED AN IRON AND IRONING BOARD THAT HOLDS UP, IS WIDER AND LONGER THAN MOST BOARDS AND STURDY. THIS IRONING BOARD DOES IT ALL WITH A FEW EXTRAS LIKE THE SHELF UNDERNEATH, THE ELECTRIC CORD ATTACHED UNDERNEATH WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO PLUG YOUR IRON INTO THAT CORD AND HAVE AN EXTRA LONG REACH. AND IT HAS A SHELF TO SET THE IRON AND A SPRAY BOTTLE OF WATER. THE BOARD IS STURDY, A LITTLE HEAVIER THAN MOST . THE COVER IS THE STANDARD METALLIC LIKE COVER WITH A THIN PADDING UNDERNEATH AND WORKS WELL.I KNOW SOME FOLKS LIKE A THICK PADDING, FOR ME IT IS A MATTER OF WHAT DOES THE JOB AND THIS ONE DOES THE JOB .I HAVE NOT FOUND THAT HAVING A THICKER PAD MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE.I FIND I CAN IRON MY SCRUBS FOR WORK FASTER BECAUSE OF THE ADDED WIDTH AND LENGTH AND MY MANY SEWING PROJECTS FIT NICELY ON THE BIGGER BOARD.i AM SHORT 5'2" AND I LIKE HAVING THE OPTION OF BEING ABLE TO ADJUST THE HEIGHT OF THIS BOARD.I CHECKED SEVERAL RETAIL STORES FOR IRONING BOARDS AND FOUND THEM ALL TO BE FLIMSY, AND CHEAPLY MADE, IN THE $12.49 TO $16.99 PRICE RANGE ( AT LOWE'S HOME IMPROVEMENT THE SAME BOARD WAS PRICED AT $34.99 AND $24.99 AT TARGET . )I COULD FIND NONE THAT WERE WIDER/LONGER THAN THE NORMAL BOARD, SO WHILE $59.99 MAY SEEM EXPENSIVE I FEEL IT IS A REASONABLE PRICE .IF I LIVE TO BE 94 AND I STILL HAVE THIS IRONING BOARD THEN IT WILL HAVE LASTED AS LONG AS MY FIRST ONE. AND MY CATS APPROVE OF IT TOO!!

Alas, after replacing a 40 year old ironing board because of its rusting and worrying about getting rust onto the clothing, I have just noticed 2 things about the year-old Polder replacement: 1.The mesh develops hard bumps under the cover. 2.The mesh is already starting to rust from steam!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! An Ironing Board that Lasts!, October 1, 2008
By
This review is from: Polder 1751w-69 Deluxe 51 by 17-Inch Ironing Station, Grey/Metalic Grey (Kitchen)
I bought this ironing board based on some of the reviews found here. I'm so glad I did! With my large family, we do a lot of ironing. I can't tell you the frustration I felt with the cheapie ironing boards from local stores. They all fell apart within months of use.

I decided I needed to bust the budget and splurge on a "deluxe" heavy-duty ironing board. Wow! Absolutely worth the money. I purposely waited almost a year after purchasing this board to rate it. It is still going strong! It is actually more cost effective to buy a more expensive board that lasts than to have to keep repurchasing crummy cheap-os.

A couple of comments. I don't use the cord. I'm perfectly happy plugging my iron into the wall, and forgot about the cord after a couple of uses. The iron holder is okay (I don't always use it, as my iron is pretty heavy and makes the whole affair top-heavy), and there are two little circles for setting starch or other spray bottles. I love having a spot to hang clothes on the end. But my favorite feature is the height adjustment. Changing the board height makes it possible for all of my children to do their own ironing. Even my seven-year old can and does use this board (with a light weight iron).

My only negative experience with the Polder board is the cover. I removed it to wash, and now it doesn't fit back on very well. The elastic or something is loose. I can use it, and it works okay, but sometimes slides around a little bit. I would recommend getting an extra cover, and/or using extra care when washing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Covers Not Available, March 18, 2008

The board is fine, no problems at all. It is nice and wide. The problem is not being able to buy a new cover for it! I have been everywhere, they are either too short or not wide enough. I am resorting to buying a new more "standard" ironing board where covers are more readily available. What a shame, this one is going out to the trashman.
