4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Little Timer
I just received this timer yesterday, and started using it right away. Unlike the reviewer who panned it, I think it's actually quite nice. The controls are easy to use, and the alarm is just the right tone. I have no problems turning it on and off and setting the timer. My 10 and 11 year old children are able to operate it, so this thing is easy to use! The only reason I...

1.0 out of 5 stars not convenient
Yes, I can hear the alarm in most rooms of the house - but I can hear the timer on my microwave just as well. This timer is poorly designed. The magnet on the back is attached to the clip that juts out from the back of the timer and is not balanced - so whenever I want to press a button I have to stabilize the unit with my other hand or it goes flying off of the...

I just received this timer yesterday, and started using it right away. Unlike the reviewer who panned it, I think it's actually quite nice. My 10 and 11 year old children are able to operate it, so this thing is easy to use! The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that I have a hard time rating something so mundane as a kitchen timer 5 stars! For 10 bucks you can't go wrong with this!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and easy, mostly, August 24, 2000

What a useful thing to have in the kitchen - I can't believe I did without one for so long! The display is nice and clear, and the alarm beeper loud enough to hear from outside the kitchen.

Two smallish gripes - firstly you need to keep pressing the set buttons for each minute/second, so if you want 45 minutes you need to press the minute button 45 times, with a beep at each one - slightly irritating! Second, the magnet on the back is just in the center of the timer and not very wide, so while it is strong I have found that if you hit the off button in a cooking panic it falls right off the refrigerator every time!

But mostly it's a very useful thing to have, and for the price I shouldn't complain, should I?

Yes, I can hear the alarm in most rooms of the house - but I can hear the timer on my microwave just as well. This timer is poorly designed. The magnet on the back is attached to the clip that juts out from the back of the timer and is not balanced - so whenever I want to press a button I have to stabilize the unit with my other hand or it goes flying off of the refridgerator or scooting across the stove. Another complaint is that once the timer has rung, if I don't clear it by pressing the minute and second button at the same time while holding the timer stable, it starts all over. I have to press for each minute of cooking time I want, and I would prefer to have an hour button than a second button. Don't waste your money on this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me, December 28, 2000

I have had no problems with the timer, and have found nothing annoying about it. It has a good ring, and the display is large enough for my liking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Passes the Soup Pot Submersion Test, December 15, 2002

Cons: Poorly designed spring clip and weak magnet on back makes unit unstable. Only one function-countdown. Other models for about [money] will do everything but take out the garbage.

Pros: Loud alarm. Large display. Long battery life (2+ years) even though display is always on.

Durability: I once knocked the timer into a hot pot of cream of butternut squash soup! Fished it out with a ladle; took out the battery; unscrewed the case; rinsed it well in warm water; then turned the blow drier on it (hey, what've I got to lose?). Two hard working months later it's still as good as new.

3.0 out of 5 stars Satisfactory for the kitchen, but has problems elsewhere, May 8, 2002

I bought this timer to use in a non-kitchen setting, for setting time limits for speakers at sessions.

It works well, but has the annoying habit of responding to every button push with a loud beep, so it's impossible to set someone's time discretely. Also, there's no power-off switch, so I run the risk of accidentally setting it off in my pocket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timing made simple, July 4, 2000

If you want a simple timer thats easy to set and use - this one's for you. The case is solid and moisture resistant so greasy fingers don't pose a problem. The kids use it to time their chess moves too. High quality and low cost - I rate it 5 stars!

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but the design could be better., August 27, 2002

It works fine and I like the magnet on the back to adhere it to metal. I put it on the range hood over my stove. The problem is that it wiggles around when you try to press the buttons and has fallen off several times. I think it would be better it the clip on the back of it was removable so that it could be placed flat on the metal surface.

As a countdown timer, it works OK but is extremely loud. Setting it for ten minutes requires ten very loud beeps. It has NO other functions, unlike most timers. But for what it is (and it isn't much) it works OK.

3.0 out of 5 stars too noisy, December 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Polder Countdown Timer (Kitchen)
I like that this operates with a AAA battery - I usually have some around for the TV remote. I do not like that it beeps LOUDLY for each time you push the buttons to set the time: e.g. set for 45 minutes, you hear 45 beeps.
