5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for damaged probes
I don't know about others but these probes seem to quit working after just a few uses. After already spending $30+ on the digital thermometer you would think it should last for a while without having to be replaced. Well the digital part continues to work great the probes have a short live span. Since I didn't want to drop another $30 bucks I thought I'd try out this...

2.0 out of 5 stars probe fails easily
In fine print, instructions warn to not use probe above 356F, however during my first use, I permanently ruined probe (now reads only "HI") when I subjected it to slightly above 300F, I will buy a replacement probe, but package insert should warn in large print not to subject to above 250F or so.

Well the digital part continues to work great the probes have a short live span. Since I didn't want to drop another $30 bucks I thought I'd try out this inexpensive replacement probe. Guess what it works and it work with all the digital thermometers that I have! I'll be buying this replacement probe vs. buy a whole new unit from now on!

Original probe failed after 6 years. Biggest trick is finding correct replacement. This web site assists in getting it right the first time. This one works perfectly

After a fairly light use over just a few months, it stopped working - giving the bogus readings of 300-400, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Think precise grilling, not long, long probe life., April 24, 2011
This review is from: Polder 359 Replacement Probe for the Preprogrammed Cook's Thermometer (307) (Kitchen)
I always use a digital thermometer in our kitchen ovens, but especially use one when grilling 2-inch rib eye steaks, 3-rib roasts, plus pork, lamb & chicken. Even thick burgers. I like to sear all sides first at max. temp. Then indirect cook to a precise temp for perfect results. Yes, I'm abusing the inexpensive probes, but I keep three spares on hand. Average life is 3-months, which is about 50 meals, about 150 servings, including some costly +/- 33 oz. steaks for two that are thick enough to have precisely controlled rare centers.

Today I slow baked a Smithfield ham in an oven bag (with water added) at 250 deg indirect grill temp until the ham had a 100 deg center temp and beeped; then let it sit covered with foil until center temp rose to 118 deg. Whole process took 5-hours, but I just put the pan holding the ham-in-bag into the grill, closed it and waited to hear the "beep". Here too precise temp was critical. Every guest was amazed that home baked ham could be so juicy, tender and tasty, thanks to a digital thermometer.

So an under $10 probe is expendable. The wonderful thing is that Amazon gets another three to me in about a week with no shipping charge. Actually that's the most amazing part.

Bought one of these probes to replace a damaged Pyrex probe. Worked when I first plugged it in but failed after sitting in the oven for a few minutes. Didn't work for me.

The probe is fine and the most important thing about it is that it works well as a replacement probe for the Pyrex Digital Probe Oven Thermometer/ Timer (http://www.amazon.com/Pyrex-Digital-Probe-Thermometer-Timer/dp/B00004RC4R). That is a common unit for which the official replacement probe is not available. I tested this against an original probe and got the same readings (+- 2 deg F).

we had to replace our other probe because the cord couldn't stand up to the heat. This one had a metal mesh cord and we are hoping it will fare much better.

I fried the old one in the grill--some meat fat caught on fire and burned the cable. Nice that I didn't have to pay for a whole new instrument. It fit my oven thermometer body, the thermometer reads an appropriate temperature.
