5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I love this thermometer for my candle making! It is easy to read and use. And very strong for something thats glass. I droped it on accident and kicked under the stove. And it did not crack or break!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very durable
I bought this for my daughters science project. We used it once for boiling water and it broke down at the bottom next to the heating element.
Would NOT buy this brand again. Can't imagine what this would of done with anything hotter than boiling water.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive product that does its job excellently., February 5, 2009
This review is from: Polder 510 Glass Candy/Deep Fry Thermometer (Kitchen)
This deep-fry thermometer, despite its cheap price, is extremely well-made and sturdy. I haven't encountered a significant problem with the holding pin. I needed a deep-fry thermometer to make fried breads, and this one does the job perfectly. It holds onto the side of frying pan and stays there during the whole frying process, letting me know the oil temperature at any moment!

2.0 out of 5 stars Will not buy again, February 24, 2009

This was good and useful as long as it lasted. I have used it about 4-5 times while frying.

Last time I used it..the thermometer just snapped at the base where the mercury bulb attaches to the glass tube. Luckily the mercury did not spill out. I guess at its price it gave me enough service.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enclosed Deep Fry Thermometer, October 31, 2009

Had one of these thermometers before. Could not find another one in stores. Excellent because it is enclosed. Don't buy one with a removable top because when you try to clean it and it gets wet inside and it will fog up the next time you use it & you can't read it even when you think it is dry. I bought two.

The thermometer works great as far as the temperature reading goes, but the clip that holds it to the pot is flimsy and once I started stirring my peanut brittle it gave out. Luckily I can usually tell when it is done, but I will be looking for a more reliable replacement.

2.0 out of 5 stars save your money and buy a different thermometer, April 14, 2009

i found this themometer to be inaccurate and the clip is made from such cheap material that it's not strong enough to hold the thermometer so it slides through it right into the oil, (not a good thing), it's hard to read while bobbing in the fryer.

I use this thermometer for heating milk for making yogurt. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and I am happy with this purchase. The temperature reading seems very accurate, as my yogurt has been turning out great. The pot clip is definitely weak. I prop the thermometer in place with 2 clothespins so it doesn't keel over into the milk. If I used it more frequently or for lots of candy-making, I would probably invest in a more heavy-duty model.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent for the price, March 3, 2011
This review is from: Polder 510 Glass Candy/Deep Fry Thermometer (Kitchen)
I got this for candy making, and it did its job. The clip for holding it to the pan was a bit loose, so that was annoying, but I made do. I used it for deep frying a couple of days ago, and it blew out the mercury. Like, it's in little drips and drabs all up and down the thermometer. I know this is partly my fault because I probably let the oil get way too hot, but it's annoying that this thing is so fragile.. Still, it did it's job.

Actually I bought this for soap making but I used it for my deep frying first. It was fantastic crispy/delicious because I got the right temperature.
It has both C, F scales, and cooking temperature guide written on the back. Thermometer is little bit bigger than I expected and this makes easy to grab. I don't use the clip just because.
It is totally enclosed with the glass cover and this is convenient for washing.
The price is reasonable. I would buy one more it for soap making.
