Disappointed dishwasher,

This review is from: Polder 6116 18/8 Stainless Steel Dish Rack (Kitchen)
I bought this exact same dish rack from another company ... . I liked this dish rack for the stainless quality and for looks. I was very disappointed that it has no sides, therefore cups and bowls, etc fall out continually. Nor does it hold many dishes at one time. The drained water stands in the bottom tray and has to be emptied with each use. The stainless steel will indeed last forever, but not in my house.

I actively dislike this dishrack. As noted, plates and bowls slide out because of open sides, it's too small for anything but VERY casual use (don't buy it if you do all your dishes by hand), and contrary to the PR, it does indeed rust. Water catches in the bottom and has nowhere to drain, so you end up with an unsanitary pool of water under your dishes. Not recommended.

Needs a tray that drains,
By A Customer
This review is from: Polder 6116 18/8 Stainless Steel Dish Rack (Kitchen)
This dish rack looks awesome in the kitchen, but isn't big enough to hold a lot of dishes. The lay out is such that it fills up pretty quick. Since it's only my wife and I, it suits our needs, and any overflow goes into the dishwasher to dry. The only think I don't like about this rack is the bottom tray, which is neither inclined nor any holes for draining. What more is there to say...it's a dish rack, and serves it's purpose. Yes, it's pricey, but should last a lifetime and I can't say enough about how good it looks in the kitchen.

Rusted After First Day of Use,
This dish drainer set is supposed to be 18/8 stainless steel, and the box says 'guaranteed to never rust." Funny. I used the crazy thing ONE DAY, and it's already rusting. The rust is coming from the underside of the drainer and then stains the tray in all four corners. UGLY! Needless to say, we returned this set. I'm very sorry I wasted my time with this one. The set actually is also marketed/manufactured by a company called Royal. It is absolutely trash.

How nasty could it be?,

Like another reviewer said, the water just stands in the bottom and there is no way for it to drain. I paid, what I consider to be a lot of money for a dish rack and it stinks....literally. Don't waste your money on this one.

Complete waste of money. I wish I kept the box so I could have returned it to Wal-mart. This rack started rusting within three weeks after using. The rust has gotten on some of my dishes. And just as the other reviewers have already mentioned, the stupid pan has no drain! Very poorly engineered product. I bought this dish-rack thinking it would look nice in my new house. Avoid at all costs!

This is a nice looking dishrack, and is the perfect size for me - I live by myself and always wash my dishes by hand. The only problem is that within the first week the tray started rusting, and now the rack itself is beginning to rust. As well as washing my dishes, I have to wash the rack too! I've used this rack for a little less than half a year, and am looking to replace it now.

Not the best stainless,

This dish drainer is a knockoff of similar and more expensive ones made from heavier guage stainless. The stainless is particularly thin on the underside of the rack near the utensil bin. As a result, rust stains formed on the bottom tray shortly after I started using it. I placed small clear plastic suction cups on both sides of the bottom tray at that end to keep the rack out of direct contact with the tray and water. This seems to help.
The rack has a good capacity. The water in the tray does not drain, but usually evaporates completely overnight. This will entail some occasional cleaning of the tray if you want to keep it looking spiffy.

Long run review,

I purchased this product over 5 years ago and am still using it. More appropriate,y, still looking for something to replace it with. Overall, it is functional but has lots of room for improvement. I wish someone was reading these reviews to come up with a product that meets the needs of customers. Here are the plus/minus on the product:
PLUSES: 1. Looks quite nice even after 5 years 2. Not very high, and keeps a low profile on our kitchen island. MINUSES: 1. THE BOTTOM TRAY: A. It is flimsy, and can easily flex (bend) when holding on the opposite ends. It is also poorly designed, and I had to put 4 round 3-M self-adhesive supporters at the bottom of the tray to avoid water build-up between the tray and the counter. That was almost a must to keep it dry and clean. B. As others have pointed out, there is NO water drainage in the tray. The water draining from the dishes sits and has no place to go. Depending upon the hardness of the water, this can leave pretty bad marks on it. C. After 5 years, there are water marks on the edges of the tray that are very hard to remove. I guess I should get water softener to avoid these problems all over the house. 2. THE DISH RACK: A. The dish rack sitting on the pool of water in the tray can develop signs of rusting and black marks on the stainless steel rod joints. Unlike what others pointed out, I did not see those signs till after several years. Also, they come out when scrub cleaned, but joint areas are impossible to clean. B. Plates holding area is fine, but the other area is open and uneven causing dishes to fall off from the sides. C. The little spoons and ladle holder is BAD. A steel plate creates three partitioned areas and standard tea spoon falls flat at the bottom of the middle one instead of staying straight up. Also, the bottom can get dirty quite quickly and is not easy to clean. OVERALL: In these times of cheap Made in China products, there is something to be said about things that can last 5 years. Having said that, I will replace this with something better in a snap, even if it is twice the price. Unfortunately, I have not found anything yet. Still looking. |
