5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Stainless Steel Dishrack
Polder 6118-75 Stainless Steel Dishdrainer with Reversible Drainer/CatchThis is a wonderful Dishdrainer, I haven't ever found a dishdrainer, that you could stack things longwise. This works out for baking sheets, Elongated Serving Trays, etc. And the best thing is that it will not rust or break. Thanks Amazon.com and I got the best price ever. I had seen the same product...

I bought this dishrack about 8 months ago. I began renting an apartment that had all stainless steel appliances so I wanted a good quality dish rack to match. After using it for several months I've had time to figure out what I like about it and what things are possible problems.

Pro
-Looks Good
-Removable Silverware Tray
-Decent amount of space (Im single so its usually plenty for me)
-Has rubber feet to stop it from sliding around on the counter
-Reversible drain system, one side drains to the sink, the other can be used to keep the water inside the tray (Although I never use it)

Con
-Started rusting after a few months. Rust spots from water can be seen in many places. I had to take a brillo pad to scrub off the rust spots. I didn't expect to have to do this for something considered stainless steel.
-Sharp edges on the silverware tray. While scrubbing the rust off I opened a nasty gash on my thumb due to a very sharp corner.
-The silverware tray has a removable divider to seperate the tray into three sections. However this divider easily slides around. If you put all of your silverware on the left, and none on the right the tray will slide to the right and your silverware will fall down. This is annoying more then anything else. You simply have to remember to balance the amount of silverware on both sides of the divider.
-The cost. Its somewhat expensive when comparing it to plastic, however the market for stainless steel dish racks is fairly thin so its hard to compare its cost to simlar items.

Overall this product looks good and makes a kitchen look cleaner compared to a plastic product. The drawbacks are you will eventually have to wipe down the dish rack to remove rust spots. A major annoyance is the divider for the silverware. It slides around and you will on more then a few occasions wind up with some silverware that lays down rather then stands up. This could easily be solved if the manufacturer provided a way for you to clip the divider into a certain spot, or if it was more tightly fitted. The advanatage of the divider is that it can be removed, or slid over to help fit bigger pieces of silverware or utensils in the rack. Im happy with the purchase, though it could have been better designed. I certainly would have liked less sharp edges on the silverware rack -- the gash on my thumb thinks so atleast.

Your choices for a stainless steel dish rack are pretty limited. If you need to have one that looks nice like me then this isn't a bad choice, however there may be better alternatives on the market that I simply could not find.

1.0 out of 5 stars Automatic Dish Dumping Rack, May 14, 2006
This review is from: Polder 6118-75 Stainless Steel Dish Rack with Reversible Drainer/Catch (Kitchen)
Unless you're planning on washing dinner plates only, this dish rack is not for you. Smaller plates (or bowls for that matter) are not secured by the inadequate wire lips ( about 1/8 inch )so they fall flat and then fall out onto the floor because the sides are completely open (3 1/4 inches) . Anything small dumps out of the side opening and onto the floor. The utensil basket has a divider which moves around and your utensils end up laying down in the bottom. I bought this thinking that since Polder has a good name, it would be a good product. I was wrong and Polder should be ashamed of such inadequate design!

I should have listened to reviews I read. The rack does not hold plates/bowls securely. The utensil bucket is not deep or narrow enough to hold common utensils upright. The curled edges of the tray (structural integrity) in drain position, hold water and will back up, and drain upon counter, unless back end is raised. The welds of the rack are not aligned properly. Thus wobbling port to starboard as it is loaded. One of the welds is soft and will not last. The only winners... shipping. Item returned. Seek alternate dish racks!

Thanks Amozon.com

I wanted a dish drainer for the inevitable things that need to be washed before the next dishwasher load runs, for pots and pans and for paring knives and utensils. I also wanted something pretty big - and I have counter space enough to accommodate that - and was eager to have the stainless steel, as I figured it would last and not get spotty.

Okay, I don't much like it. The drainer underneath gets spotted very easily. Bit the biggest problem, by far.

The silverware holder looks great but functions lousy. The divider isn't secure - not fastened in - and since it doesn't fit snugly, it rams around (noisily) and stuff falls over. It seems a minor matter but it's not.

The large section has no glassware spaces (!) and the area where plates should go is so poorly designed that they won't stand up. The slots are way too shallow. And, there isn't any other configuration to it. We have to just stick things in there and pile them on top of each other. We did that before we even got a dish drainer, on a towel on the counter.

This is an attractive item but functionality is poor. I wish I hadn't bought it. I am going to get one of the Rubbermaid type drainers and keep the stainless steel drainboard from this set, and give the drainer to Goodwill. Too bad.

Like others who reviewed this item, I have had a small dish slip out of the rack and break - due to its design. Also, I kept finding water next to the tray and discovered that it was collecting on the rolled lip on the bottom of the tray and spilling over. We corrected this by placing a board under the high side, creating more slope. This could be done by making the plastic feet on that end higher. The addition of verticle bars on the front of the rack would avoid small dishes slipping through. I'm surprised that Polder didn't think of these simple corrections.

I like this rack because it's a breeze to clean and holds more then most racks. I clean it in my dish washer. Because it's large, I have to place it in on an angle. I remove the utensil holder, turn it upside down and have no problem getting it totally clean. All three pieces come out shiny clean with no rust every time.

I like the way it angles down so it drains the water out well. I've had lots of complements on it and after helping me with my dishes, one of my best friends has purchase one just like it.

I use it primarily for pots and pans. However it holds my plates just fine. I place the smaller ones so they are supported on their bottoms and sides at the far end of the drainer away from the sink.

All and all, I like it because it holds my dishes but more importantly the big stuff too. I like its sleek stainless look and the fact that it drains well.

The only negative is I have to put it in the dishwasher on an angle. If it fit in straight, it would have to be smaller. I like its robust size and am willing to sacrifice the dishwasher angle placement for its ability to hold as much as it does.

Use it everyday...I do not have a dishwasher so this item gets a workout! the only thing I wish it would have is glassware holders...and that the spoon holder was not free moving...it tends to make the larger spoons and knifes more around to much. But it is very nice looking on my black counter and so far it has Not rusted as so many others have complained about...I have owned it for 5 months now.
