5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for accurate measurements
In the past, I used to eyeball some measurements. For baking, this would throw off proper rising or baking time. Now, I don't know how I got along without this handy scale. And since using this scale, I realized how much I had previously relied on guess work for measurements. No more....

3.0 out of 5 stars I Am Just Not Confident About This Scale's Performance
We bought this scale to replace a Soehnle Scale (Vera 9 lb Digital $49.00) that was dropped and broken. This Polder scale is about $20 less and it works okay EXCEPT that the digital read out sometimes just will not settle on a weight and keeps flucuating up and down. 5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for accurate measurements, March 13, 2005

In the past, I used to eyeball some measurements. For baking, this would throw off proper rising or baking time. Now, I don't know how I got along without this handy scale. And since using this scale, I realized how much I had previously relied on guess work for measurements. No more....

First of all, it has a very small foot print, so I don't worry about it taking up valuable countertop space. It's small enough, that I set it on top of my espresso machine when it's not in use. But it's one of my kitchen tools that I use almost daily.

With the 'tare' feature (an absolute must for a kitchen scale), I can set a large bowl on top of the scale, zero out the bowl's weight then pour, slice, shred, chop directly into the bowl until I reach the desired weight for the ingredient. I have also found that if I empty the bowl and return it quickly to the scale, the weight of the bowl is 'remembered' so I don't have to tare the weight of the bowl back to zero. It's quite handy to have this feature when measuring large quanties. Note: when the scale turns off (after a period of inactivity... good battery saving feature)you will have to use the tare feature again when placing a container on the scale.

The display is easy to read and converts from ounces to grams. Given that it measures to the 1/8 of an ounce, I am confident in the accuracy of the measurements.

The finish of the scale also cleans up quickly. So whether I am weighing cheese, mushrooms, or heck... even tofu, I just wipe it clean.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Kitchen Scale for the Price., November 23, 2004

This is a wonderful kitchen scale for the price. The digital disply is easy to read and can be changed from grams to ounces easily. The weight of a bowl or container can be zeroed out (tared) as well, which makes it very useful, especially for measuring out ingredients for baking. The white finish cleans easily as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific asset to the kitchen, September 29, 2005

This scale is the best assest I've aquired for the kitchen. It's digital, accurate, easy to read and small enough not to be "on display" on the counter. I appreciate the tare feature so that you can measure the food minus the weight of the container. I no longer guess, it's so easy to measure my portions. Great for diabetics and weight watchers. Highly recommended.

We bought this scale to replace a Soehnle Scale (Vera 9 lb Digital $49.00) that was dropped and broken. This Polder scale is about $20 less and it works okay EXCEPT that the digital read out sometimes just will not settle on a weight and keeps flucuating up and down. We have to remove whatever we're weighing and wait for the scale to power off (no off function like the Soehnle) and then start all over again. It is also not as easy to read the display as I am used to with the Soehnle. For the price, I am going to keep using it for now, but I have my fingers crossed that this one too gets knocked to the floor and broken sometime soon so that I can replace it with a Soehnle.

5.0 out of 5 stars accurate, March 4, 2006
This review is from: Polder Digital Add'N'Weigh 11-Pound Kitchen Scale, White (Kitchen)
This scale was calibrated by my scientist husband. It weighed a penny accuratly and a 10 lb bag of flour. Putting more weight then a digital scale is rated to handle can damage it. This scale is rated for a wide span of wieghts used in cooking and is therefore a bargin.

simple and compact. haven't had any problems. For general kitchen weighing and you don't have to be too precise, this is a great kitchen tool.

I also purchased this product thinking it'd be a great low-priced scale. I consider myself to be gentle on my kitchen appliances and though I use it once a day or once every other day, I expect it to last more than a few months. I changed the battery, re-checked the connection, and it's shot. I was always skeptical about its accuracy but now it's just dead. I'd recommend other brands unless you want to have to replace yours in less than a year.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not working out-of-box, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Polder Digital Add'N'Weigh 11-Pound Kitchen Scale, White (Kitchen)
The scale does not come with a battery, even though there is a distinct place for it in the internal packaging. Scale had a 2002 manufacture date on it. All of this I can live with, the bigger problem was that the scale would not zero itself. When turned on, it would drift dramatically after a couple of seconds. I timed it -40g for one minute (and after hours... just keep on going...). The box had no signs of damage, so I'm guessing the load cell was bad. Very disappointing.

I have had this scale for about 4 months. It worked fine the few times I used it, but last night I went to use it and it has given up the ghost. I swapped batteries and still nothing. The connection for the 9v battery is VERY loose, and even after crimping and holding it tight it didn't get any juice. Not happy so I will order a different brand and hope it does better. I do not abuse or heavily use my kitchen gadgets, so maybe I just got a lemon.
