I did some shopping and comparing, before taking a chance and ordering this one. I found it listed in several places, but the descriptions of the size were not the same, and none of the descriptions mentioned what type of battery it used. Anyway, I rcvd it, and it appears to be a quality product, worth paying a little extra for. I dont know why all the descriptions say it measures in increments of 0.125, I thought that sounded a little weird; mine obviously displays the weight in pounds, ounces, and 0.1 of an ounce. It comes with (2) 3V lithium batteries (CR2032) which I presume are long lasting, and can be replaced. The size is: 6-1/2" wide X 8-1/2" long X 1-3/8" high. It seems to be very responsive; and the large tilted display is easy to read and wont be blocked by large bowls. I wanted to buy a cheaper one, but they sounded like junk, whereas this one doesnt have any drawbacks that I can tell. LATER: I see now, on the Polder website, that this model comes with (4)-AAA batteries. They must have made this change to the design. But the (2)-3V batteries mine came from are still working great after 5 years (1/24/14).

Took me forever to pick a scale. This was the right choice. Very easy to read. Glass top is a good size and cleans up quickly if there are spills. The large display with its relatively steep angle is quite visible even with a large bowl on the scale. Very simple to switch between grams and ounces and one-touch tare make adding ingredients a breeze. 7 lb. capacity is more than sufficient (as opposed to the 4 lb. capacity of many competing models). Also, it is very accurate, based on my testing with commercial weights. Attractive, compact, high-quality, easy to use, no-frills item that I am very happy with.

UPDATE: I have been using this scale for over 5 years. We have moved twice since I bought it. I use it every single day (unless I am traveling) at least 5 or 6 times. Aside from having to change the batteries a couple of times, I have had no issues with it whatsoever. Last week, out of curiosity, I tested it with some jeweler's weights, and it is still accurate to within a couple of grams.

Looked at many scales and at Food Network's Alton Brown's recommendation tried to find a scale to weigh up to 11 pounds. Did not like those that did for various reasons, mostly large size. The Polder weighs up to 6.5 lb. and has proven to be just fine. My main purposes are to weigh flour and other dry ingredients for baking, and for smoothies. My glass blender jar is 3.6 lb and the 6 smoothie ingredients, at 4 oz. each, are another 1.5 lb so well under the max device capacity. Scale is easy and quick to tare as each ingredient is added. Only concern is that when adding liquid ingredients, there is sometimes a delay for the added weight to actually change the display, so add slowly or stop for a second or two until display catches up, otherwise you could easily add too much. As other reviewers mentioned this scale is compact, absurdly simple to use, very easy to clean, works well.

I've been using this scale for a few months to measure fairly small quantities ingredients for home baking. I use it for one or two sessions a week. If I had it to do over I would not purchase this scale and I would discourage anyone else from buying it.
The scale has been temperamental from the start. Sometimes it comes on instantly but sometimes it takes several seconds to light up. It usually turns itself off within about 30 seconds (not three minutes, as the product specs promise). The lag in startup time after auto shutoffs can add up to quite a bit of wasted time. The weighing platform is designed so as NOT to protect the electronic mechanisms from ingredients that are being weighed. Flour dust settles on and quickly obscures the readout screen requiring a hand wash and dry in order to clean the screen at least once during each recipe build. Because the control panel is unprotected, it's necessary be extra careful when weighing liquids/wet ingredients to avoid damaging the electronics.
Despite using great care and having accommodated the scale's shortcomings, recently my Polder scale's display screen has started to go blank or display weird pixelated patterns temporarily during use. Possibly it has become damaged by the slight pressure required to clean the scree during and after use?
I believe screen failure is due to a poor design. If a major component of a product is too fragile to stand up to the rigors of normal kitchen use and gentle cleaning then it is insufficiently durable for its intended purpose.

The unit is well-constructed and solidly built. There's not of that flimsy plastic feel that some scales have. I like the clean, simple style, and the compact size and square shape are great for storage - I keep it sideways in the cabinet and it barely takes up any room. The screen is large and easy to read. It has all the basic functions you need in a general kitchen scale without any frivolous extras (although a hold button would be nice). The weighing surface is a fairly generous size; though larger bowls may block viewing the screen from above, you can still bend down and see it from a lower angle.

One small issue I've found with the batteries: while a new set lasts a long time, it can start acting quirky (not registering weight, count down in negative numbers, refusing to stay on) without showing the 'replace battery'. Even though the batteries still had a pretty high amount of charge, a brand new set was needed to restore normal functioning.
