If this is made of stainless steel, then it is the first stainless steel thing I have owned that rusted in only a few months. And I don't mean a barely noticable rust spot, almost the entire length of the rod on the shower side is rusted on the bottom.

When it arrived, I read the entire box and all of the paperwork that came with it, everything called it "brushed finish" not stainless steel. So, the Amazon listing may just be wrong, but the item itself never seems to claim to be stainless.

The ends have to be held in place on the walls while the rods are extended out, making installation a 2 person job. The whole thing is quite heavy - not necessarily a bad thing, but dropping it on your tub would cause you to have a bad day.

Unlike most tension rods, it doesnot seem to 'un-tension.' The instructions actually say that if you over-extend the rod, you have to pull it out completely and put it back in, because you can't move it backwards. I think I will be using a pipe cutter to remove it when I find one that is actually stainless steel.

I also does not come with those little pieces of round plastic that go towards the middle of the rod, where the 2 halves of the rod meet. That leaves the sharp end of the larger rod for you to cut your hand on as you open/close the curtain.

I am so disappointed with the quality of this curtain rod. I have loved the design and functionality of the rod itself. I purchased this product in May of 2007. Now the ends of the rod are "peeling". They are made of thick silver paper. The rods themselves are rusting. I would not recommend this product based on the poor quality of materials.

Now, here's a nifty product if you don't want to drill holes in your walls. The DUO rod and rack is easy to put together; you just put the poles in the two holders. The holders have rubber on the end to keep it from slipping; it works fairly well if you and balance the weight. The directions say it's a two-man job to set it up, but I had little problems doing it myslef. If you're working with a large shower it would be easier with two people. It's also great to stick up between two close-spaced walls.

The tension rods did not hold their tension, and the rubber slipped on my bathtub tile walls, so the rod would not stay up properly. And in twisting the rods to increase tension, the only thing that really happened was that the rubbing process scratched the finish on both rods. Then I couldn't get the little plastic washers to fit as they're supposed to between the space of the tension rod segments. What a waste of $40! The stainless steel single rod I bought at the local discount shop for $7.99 has a better stainless steel finish, stronger tension, and is far easier to put up. Just put 2 up side by side - same effect as this "award winning designed" product.

Overall this is a decent shower curtain rod as long as you have somebody to help you set it up. The installation is tool-less (there is an option to use screws to mount it but there is no real reason to do so).

As other reviews on here state, this rod is designed such that when you "lock" it in place, you can not make any further changes to the extension of the rod. I don't know why the designers created the product in this way, as every other curtain rod I've ever used allows for removal and re-installation. With this rod, once you lock it, it stays in place, and good luck ever taking it down.

The first unit I received came shipped in the "locked" position, making it impossible to install (it was locked in the fully collapsed position, so I couldn't extend the rod at all, even with me and a friend tugging on it). I had to request a replacement from Amazon. Fortunately they provided their usual good support in replacing products and sent me an advance replacement. The second unit worked perfectly, and is now in use in my shower. No complaints beyond the strange design flaw. I don't know if this rod will rust if used with metal curtain rings; I am using a ring-less shower curtain so I shouldn't get scratches on the finish, and hopefully I won't ever have to find out whether or not it rusts.

As other users indicated, this rod has a funky(read cheap) method to tighten the rods into position. Do your best to tighten the bars symetrically and DONT OVER TIGHTEN, you'll strip it.

Basically you can only install this once and you better be careful. Why they recommend two people.

They would have been better off with a spring in the rods and a screwed in end plate, or at least the option. Or better, for the money, true threaded rods, then this item would be top notch

It works and looks great once and if you get it installed, luv it. No rust with two years of service.

But if you need to remove it, which is hard to do. Basically have to try to knock it out and then force it back in to re-install (because the metal gets stripped, well, you'll see). It is basically not a reusable item.

That said, if I did need to remove and it would not re-install, I'd think about getting another because no one out there seems to have anything close. I'd pay $100 for a thread version of this. It would last a life time. (My parents still use similar items from the 60's that are threaded)

This is not stainless steel. Both rods rusted within a few months. Not just a couple spots but the entire rod. This is false advertising. Do not purchase this product unless you like rust. It is complete waste of your hard earned money.

Ok... I'm not actually an expert on curtain rods, but this one IS really cool. My shower isn't quite a standard size so I didn't want to get a standard rod and have it not fit.

I installed this by myself in a matter of a couple minutes. You basically just put the ends on the poles and slide them apart until the end caps hit both walls, and then you twist the bar to tighten it. Seems to be VERY sturdy. I didn't try to do pullups or anything, but it can easily take a lot of weight hanging on it.

Love the extra bar. I can reach my towel without getting out of the shower now.

The stainless steel finish looks damn gooood. Also ... from the pictures I thought the bars would be thin, but they are are pretty thick which makes it even more attractive than I expected. :)

I purchased this shower rod so that I could save space in a small bathroom. I wanted to have wall space without hanging towel bars. This rod did the trick. It is not only functional, but it is beautiful, too. It comes in several finishes, I chose the brushed nickel to match my faucets. It hangs without screws and is solid to the wall so there is no slipping or falling like some of the less expensive shower rods. I highly recommend this. You can check it out and order it here. Great idea in curtain rods. I had sepersate rods in the past,this eleminates that situation. Well made of stainless steel.
