2.0 out of 5 stars Alas, farewell!
My third try with this timer just failed, as usual it was the digital readout, which started displaying partial, thus illegible, numbers.

I kept buying and trying this thing because in all other respects it is close to perfect. Still, three failures can be no accident, just sloppy quality control.

This timer is perfect for classrooms. It is easy to set, and has magnetic bottoms that allow you to stick it to a desk or a magnetic chalkboard/white board. Because it changes colors students can see when time is nearly up for an activity even if they cannot read the numbers from the back of the room.

It has a fairly large display. It is also loud enough to be heard even in the loudest classrooms, (like when you are playing review games.)

I teach high school math and I use mine all the time! I even use it for state testing. I would recommend this to any teacher, but I think it would really shine in an Elementary setting.

I like it so much I even bring it home sometimes because it is louder than my stove or microwave timer, and I can stick it almost anywhere.

The buttons are exposed and easily pressed. This might not be the timer for you if you are looking for something that won't go off in a backpack or briefcase.

It also starts counting up after time runs out so you can see how long it has been ringing. Very nice for cooking when you are also working outside or catch the alarm after it's been going off for a while.

Super product.

Great timer. Good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great meeting timer, September 17, 2008

We have a monthly business meeting and it is very important that everyone stays on time with the agenda. We use this timer so that each presenter can see how much time they have left and also get visual notice (color changes) as their allotted time runs down.

The timer is very simple to use and very effective in keeping us on our tight time schedule.

UPDATE, July 26, 2011 - This timer is still working great. We use it for a 1/2 day meeting every month and have done so since I bought it several years ago. We have had no problems with it at all. Also, I take the batteries out when it is not in use and I think I am only on my 2nd set of batteries.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't count backwards and stopped working after 6 weeks, November 3, 2010

I use this mostly for cooking. I like the size of the display but there's no way to reduce the time without starting all over again. If it's at 50 minutes and I need 45 then I have to clear and start again. Not a big deal in the scheme of life but inconvenient nonetheless. After 6 weeks, the display is frozen and replacing the batteries hasn't helped. Into the trash it goes...

4.0 out of 5 stars I like this timer, April 15, 2009
This review is from: Polder Traffic Light Kitchen Timer, White (Kitchen)
I like this timer, because I like colors. Also, I like the fact that it has batteries that are easy to get anywhere (3 aaa's)

The timer turns green at 1 minute, yellow at 30 seconds, and red at 10 seconds. When the minutes are up, it flashes in all the colors. If you're in bright sunlight, the colors don't really show up, and maybe it's just me, but the timer alarm doesn't seem very loud, so I'll see the colors change even if I miss the alarm..

I was happy to see the light on this timer also back-lights the LCD display! Not many timers do that so this was an added plus. Having said that, I do wish I could control how long the light stays on though. As it is, it just stays on a few seconds before it turns off. But I do like the 3 color alerts, tipping me off to when the timer is about to go off, and then repeatedly flashing when time's up. Also, it arrived with the LCD screen all messed up -- I thought I was going to have to return it, but I gently rubbed my finger over the LCD screen in circular motions and it leveled off the LCD so it would display digits properly.

FYI - the entire white surface on the face of the timer illuminates when the timer lights up -- green, yellow/orange and red. And the LCD screen lights up too. Large digits help make this very easy to see and read.

Overall, this cost a bit more than I care to admit spending on a timer, but it is pretty cool. I'm happy with it.

I recently purchased this timer through Amazon, and am very happy with it. I find the lights useful, and also appreciate that you can defeat them if you so choose. And the buzzer volume is plenty loud for me. The unit has 3 very strong magnets on the back for mounting to a metal surface. I did find that they are rather smooth, so when I put it on a vertical surface it had a tendency to slide down. But I solved this problem by applying some foam tape to each magnet. The magnets are strong enough to hold through the tape and it no longer slides. I like that it counts up after it ends, and it will remember the last timer setting. And it uses three AAA batteries, which should provide a long life. The only thing I don't like is the buttons to set the time only go up, so if you go past the time you wanted to set you must clear it and start over. But that hasn't been a big problem for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!, March 29, 2009

I bought this timer for my classroom. The kids enjoy watching it when the colors change so they can estimate the time remaining. It has a magnet on the back, so it sticks right to the white board for all to see. It's simple to use and just what I needed.

This timer is wonderful. I really like the 'stoplight' colors letting you know that the time is about to run out. The fact that it counts up after it has gone off to let you know how long ago it did is a great feature as well. I find that the volumne of the timer is just right. I can hear it thoughout most of my house, but it isn't quite so loud that it annoys me if I am right next to it.

Sadly the LCD on mine went out after about 10 months - which is why 4 stars instead of 5. However I emailed the manufacturer and within 10 minutes I got an email back asking for my address so that they could send out a replacement right away (and they did). Exceptional customer service from Polder.

I received the timer yesterday, and was able to get timer to work using the instructions. However
there was no sound, and I couldn't find anything in the instructions to correct that. I don't think that it will be
of much use without the sound.
