Great Book for First Time Assessment Center Prep,

The first thing that struck me about this book is the how close the testing process covered resembles my department's testing process.
If you are unfamiliar with the assessment center process and test taking in general, this book would be a real help. The book for Lieutenants, Captains, and Asst. Chiefs would be helpful for someone testing for Sergeant or Corporal as well. It isn't as in depth as some books but it covers the basics extremely well and gives tips that even veterans of the testing process can use. The book begins with a section on general testing information. The next section covers some basic managment theories. Since these always seem to be on the test, it never hurts to review them. It then goes in depth on written test and oral examniation preparation, and then the assessment center itself. The final parts have a written and oral tests to try at home. The book is written in a clear and concise manner and can be read in a fairly short amount of time. For the price I would say that this book is a good value and worth reading.

Police Management Examination & Preparation Guide,

This review is from: Police Management Examinations: Preparation Guide (Paperback)
By far the best study guide I've ever seen. This guide allows the Candidate to apply Policies and procedures specific to his/her own department into the practice exams and questions. I also recommend this for recently promoted Command staff, and patrol officers who are considering testing for promotion. It really helps you see the "Big Picture" within your own Department, and sharpens your thinking. I guarantee you'll get your Money's worth and so much more!

This is a great guide for the police management promotional process. It is very thorough and loaded with great infornation. A word of advice for anyone close to a promotional process for a police management position; Buy this book an buy it early. If you follow the recommendations in the book you will need at least 1 to 2 months to dedicate several hours a day to studying and reading. I, unfortunately, only had a month, but this guide was a great tool and I would highly recommend it.

This book helped me over the years in getting promoted. I recently purchased 2 copies for my Sergeants who were studying for a Lieutenants promotion. They both stated it helped them and one got promoted!

This was exactly what I was looking for. I also used the author's Segeant's exam book which helped me get promoted.

Needed some guides for promotion preparation. This is one of several that I purchased, and I think all helped a little in different areas.
If you have a lot of time to prepare and study (and you always should be preparing for promotion in ANY job) then get as many books & guides as you can. They will help you do better now, and get recognized now. When promotion time comes - you will be ready!

Very generic. I guess if this is your first time taking a promotional exam it would be helpful. I was expecting much more. If you're looking for a more indepth guide to upper level management promotional opportunities then this is definately not the book for you. Again, not "dogging" the authors, it just wasn't what I was looking for.

I just received this book in preparation for an upcoming Lieutenant's test on my department. The book has some very good sections e.g. preparing for the oral interview. It helps the reader avoid some of the common mistakes made during this very crucial step of the promotional process.
One issue I immediately noticed was the poor quality of the printing. There are numerous plates with what looks like poorly xeroxed pages. What sturck me first was on the first page of the first chapter, "The Way of the Path", the printing is not clean and sharp, the fonts are messy with jagged edges. This is a book that is supposed to help the reader prepare for promotion into the upper management of their Departmant. While the content has the possibility of acheiving that, the lack of attention to detail and the poor printing are just not acceptable. |
