3.0 out of 5 stars Fairly good techniques with good presentation
In this film, Mark Wyler and Eric Murray concentrate mainly on straight baton and handcuffing techniques. There are short sequences that handle multiple officer techniques and vehicle extractions, as well.

The film opens with baton techniques. Although these techniques can be used with old fashioned baton as well, they have used telescopic baton in the film...

4.0 out of 5 stars Pressure points & handguns, August 15, 2007

This is a training film for police officers; the techniques are not well suited for general self defense or even armed citizens. The film has basically two subjects: pressure points, and handguns.

The pressure point section opens up with presentation of various pressure points and target areas found in human body. The pressure points presender in the film are divided into hard and soft techniques; the hard techniques are basically hits and kicks into pressure point areas, meant to be used against actively resisting or even aggressive opponents. The soft techniques are pressing techniques that can be used against passively resisting opponents. First Mark Wyler and Eric Murray present several pressure point techniques used with bare hands (both hard and soft techniques), and after that they cover Kubaton techniques.

The second half of the film covers handgun retention and disarming. In the film, they show several different handgun retention techniques, both gun still in holster or gun in hand. I find one of these techniques especially good (both reliable and simple), therefore I have taken it as my primary handgun retention technique. After handgun retention, they show several handgun disarming techniques that can be used in situations the officer is threatened on gunpoint.

The production of the film is good: everything works fine, but there is nothing especially good either. I found that the film has a bit too much emphasis on Kubaton techniques for my taste, but they make it up by presenting several excellent gun retention techniques.

This review is from: Police Safety and Survival 2 DVD (DVD)
OF ALL THE BASIC TRAINING PRODUCTIONS OUT THERE THIS ONE IS VERY WELL MADE, AND EXPAINS EVERY TECHNIQUE IN DETAIL AND WITH NUMEROUS REPETITIONS. IT IS GREAT FOR THE BEGINNER AND FOR THE MORE ADVANCED OFFICER.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fairly good techniques with good presentation, August 15, 2007

In this film, Mark Wyler and Eric Murray concentrate mainly on straight baton and handcuffing techniques. There are short sequences that handle multiple officer techniques and vehicle extractions, as well.

The film opens with baton techniques. Although these techniques can be used with old fashioned baton as well, they have used telescopic baton in the film. They have devoted surprisingly much time to blocking with baton, although I consider it as a marginal technique. In addition to that, they present several techniques that I would use very cautiously, as they are very hard techniques. But naturally, the viewer has to know his local use of force regulations and act accordingly, so that is not a big problem.

Another major portion on the film is handcuffing techniques. They are presented fairly well, and there are several variations taught.

In addition to the techniques presented, Wyler and Murray point some issues that require caution or special attention for safety reasons.

The technical quality of the film is good, and everything works fine production-wise. The film is easy to watch and it contains some good information to police officers.
