Book Description

Examines how policy is created and how it is used.

H. K. Colebatch investigates policy as a practical concept -- an idea that both politicians and outside observers use to make sense of public life and to participate effectively in it. Rather than describing particular sorts of policy, he analyzes how the policy process works by addressing the core questions: What do we mean by policy? What is it for? Who makes it?

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book builds impressively upon its reproduces with the theoretical content significantly stronger and more wide-ranging. As a knowledge tour through the field the field of 'policy', this book is hard to fault.

...this is a book which can add genuine depth and iintellectualexcitement to a student's understanding of public policy and one which I personally found a stimulating read." - Jim Goddard (Social Policy & Administration ) --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Policy analysis, March 9, 2007
This book remains one of the best theoretical studies of policy issues. In many countries, including my own, writers discuss policy issues without a glance at any theoretical framework or ideological underpinnng. Colebatch's work should be required reading. I will not pretend that the book contains a framework that will enable an understanding of day to day policy decisions by government, but it is an indispensable work to be used to study the broader context of political change and conflict.
