A must have book for every nurse's library! Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care is the most comprehensive book of its kind. From nursing students to doctorally prepared nurses in clinical practice, education, research or administration, this book provides a wealth of information for all nurses. The U.S. health care system is changing at an unprecedented rate. It is important for nurses to be actively engaged in the political process which will determine health care delivery of the future. Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care will help nurses to learn about this process as well as how they can have a voice in shaping our health care system in order to provide quality, affordable and accessible health care for those in need.

This book was required for a Master's level class in Nursing Policy. It is a great book, easy to read and understand, with very short chapters. There is a lot of repetition among the chapters which helps to reinforce learning. The topics covered in the book are current and relevant to health care and nursing. Overall an interesting, educational, and even enjoyable book (as enjoyable as a text book can be).

Required reading for school, but definitely not objective or unbiased. It is obviously written favoring the Democrat point of view.

This has been the best book for nurses on health policy since the first edition was published. It's been required reading for me and I have learned so much about how nurses can influence health care through policy and political action. The reviews that say this book is biased are so wrong - those readers must have missed the chapters about conservative nurses and what they've accomplished, the chapter that explains political philosophy, the chapter by Republican legislator Mary Behrens, and the chapter by Republican activist Elene Lopez Bowlan. This book presents many sides of important issues and is extremely balanced. It gets great feedback from students and nurses in practice that I talk to. No other health policy book that is for sale now comes close to offering what this book does. It is the best!

This book could've been written by Barack Obama. It is hugely biased. I found it very interesting material, but so disappointed that there was no neutral perspective. It could be very informative, but unfortunately I can't take a word of it for the truth because I feel that only the information that supported the author's opinion was given.

Great information and really gets the reader thinking of the possibilities of getting involved. I needed it for school, but plan on keeping it for future reference.

I was required to purchase this text for a graduate nursing class. I was excited because I am very interested in health care policy and politics. Unfortunately this book is borderline propaganda for socialism. For example, it gives all of the positive talking points for the new health care reform law, but none of the drawbacks or negative implications. I would have much preferred a non-biased text which presents all sides of an issue.

Personally I had difficulty reading past the first couple of pages. Each time I was forced to read the book (it was a required grad school text) I would become completely irritated at the biased and opinionated doctrine. I would never recommend this text.
