A must have book for every nurse's library! Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care is the most comprehensive book of its kind. From nursing students to doctorally prepared nurses in clinical practice, education, research or administration, this book provides a wealth of information for all nurses. The U.S. health care system is changing at an unprecedented rate. It is important for nurses to be actively engaged in the political process which will determine health care delivery of the future. Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care will help nurses to learn about this process as well as how they can have a voice in shaping our health care system in order to provide quality, affordable and accessible health care for those in need.

I had to purchase this book for my MSN health policy class. I can tell from the first several pages-- and scanning through other chapeters-- this book is written from a liberal perspective. What happened to being open minded to other points of view?? Oh, I know, that only pertains to conservatives.

This book was required for a Master's level class in Nursing Policy. It is a great book, easy to read and understand, with very short chapters. There is a lot of repetition among the chapters which helps to reinforce learning. The topics covered in the book are current and relevant to health care and nursing. Overall an interesting, educational, and even enjoyable book (as enjoyable as a text book can be).

Great book! It provides comprehensive material on a wide range of topics concerning politics and policy in health care. The chapters are clearly written so that complex topics are understandable. I find it to be an excellent reference and teaching tool for staying up to date on how changes in the political terrain are impacting nursing. The content is thoroughly researched. Chapters present multiple positions on key issues and their historical context.

Useful book for nurses at the Master or Doctoral level to improve their understanding of policy. The book contains practical guidance and resources to help nurses navigate and understand the mechanics of policy. One personal lesson learned, my research can inform health policy to improve patient care and quality. In addition, nursing associations interested in building the capacity of their members to engage in health policy can use this book.

I have used this textbook to teach health policy at the DNP level for many years and find it to be extremely helpful and on target on developing policy competency in advanced practice nurses. The content is balanced and the real life experiences from nurses who are at the policy table powerfully bring the policy concepts and policy process to life. Thank you all 100-plus authors for this important book. Dr. O'Grady

This book is very comprehensive in content. Nurses who would like to learn about the policy process and significant societal issues that are relevant to nursing practice, education, research and advocacy, should have this book in their library. It has been very useful in my professional and community child and family advocacy activities.

I was required to purchase this text for a graduate nursing class. I was excited because I am very interested in health care policy and politics. Unfortunately this book is borderline propaganda for socialism. For example, it gives all of the positive talking points for the new health care reform law, but none of the drawbacks or negative implications. I would have much preferred a non-biased text which presents all sides of an issue.
