Don't go to Poland without it, June 6, 2000
This review is from: Polish Phrasebook: A Rough Guide Phrasebook (Rough Guide Phrasebooks) (Polish Edition) (Paperback)
I am an American and I just moved to Poland for two months with no knowledge of Polish whatsoever. I own many books on Polish, but this little book, (which was the least expensive by far), is currently my lifeline. It has very useful expressions in it, a seperate food index, pronunciation tips and more. Most importantly, however, it spells out each Polish word phonetically. Considering that in Polish only 5 letters sound the way they do in English, this is extremely helpful. The Polish language is very hard to read, and even harder to pronounce, but this book has made communication possible for me.

Useful for a beginner, June 4, 2000
This review is from: Polish Phrasebook: A Rough Guide Phrasebook (Rough Guide Phrasebooks) (Polish Edition) (Paperback)
I bought this book hoping to pick up a little bit of the language that so many of my friends speak.
Although it is no substitute for personal instruction, I found this to be quite useful. I learned a few colloquialisms, and the author interjects some interesting culture notes here and there.
All in all, I'd say it's work the couple of bucks to pick it up. Recommended.
