Set in the South in the 1950s Polishing Jade is a book of courage, endurance, and victory. It’s a story of how a young girl faces true to life abuse and circumstances that could have easily labeled the rest of her life as failure. Yet as God’s plan for her unfolds she grows into a young woman any woman would be proud to be.
Not only does Polishing Jade show the importance of getting through rough times in life and striving towards our future, but it also shows the importance of helping those in need, and how much it can both enrich their lives and our own lives in the process.
I highly recommend Polishing Jade to women of all ages.

This is a great story, a good portrayal of life in the period (1960s) down South. The writing is colorful, descriptive and keeps the reader's interest, as the little red-haired girl comes to life on the pages of her book. This author has given us a great first effort with this pull-your-heart-strings tale. It's an enjoyable read.

Jade is the story of a young girl who lives through rough times and makes mistakes. Her mistakes build one on another until she doesn't know how she will ever fix all things that are wrong in her life. Jade is also a story of hope and second chances and finding family when the one you were born with doesn't work anymore. This is a wonderful first novel from a promising new author!

I truly loved this story. It was set in the South during the late `60`s. I grew up during that era. As I was reading this, I couldn't help but put myself in Jades shoes. My father also went through some horrific trials during the Korean war. But that is where the similarities ended. It made me thank GOD once again for a loving , kind earthly father. I wonder if I could have been as strong as she was, during her difficult days. Also, Miss Renee` was an angel. I believe that God places certain people in our lives. We need to be aware of who HE places in our daily lives. I will be anxiously awaiting your next book!

Jade is a young girl in a small Mississippi town where several life changing experiences will have her second guessing about life, love and hope. After her mother dies and her brother moves to Kansas, Jade is left with an alcoholic father that she resents and feels made her mother's life unbearable. After one of her dad's friends rapes Jade, the struggles, lies, and secrets may be to much for her to handle. "Polish Jade" is wonderfully written and has a cast of characters that will enlighten your heart. I recommend this story to all who love a challenging heart. Diane G.

Tekoa Manning has nailed it again! After reading Walter the Homeless Man and loving it I looked for more books by Tekoa Manning and found Polishing Jade. Again I was reading a book that I did not want to put down. This author's writing makes you feel like you really know the characters, like you have a personal relationship with them. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more Takoa Manning books in the future!

"Polishing Jade" is a lilting, lazy afternoon in the life of a young girl, which swiftly roils into the bitter-sweet confusion of a contradictive and threatening world. Set in late 1960's, when I was a teenager myself, I could easily relate; and yet it is a poignant story for any generation.

For me, Jade is a charmingly written reminder that everyone needs at least one someone who will accept, nurture, love, and guide them through the overwhelming darkness of life.

If we are fortunate, each of us may encounter a few compassionate souls along the way. And if we are even more fortunate, we may serve as a compassionate soul for those who are Divinely placed in our path. I believe that Author Tekoa Manning is one such soul.

I would recommend "Polishing Jade" for anyone who ever wondered what might be going on behind the innocent eyes of youth.

I read this story in audio format via audible.com. I always choose the audio's first as the narrators tend to breath life into the stories, like a heart beat. Audio books also allow us to read and still be hands free to do other things like walking, work, drive, clean etc...

This story is set deep in a rural town of Mississippi back in the 60's. Back when abuse was common in families and being an unwed mother was unacceptable.

Jade was born to a poor family where dad got drunk and beat mom for years. One day mom got sick and was diagnosed with lung cancer. Then it was just Dad with Jade and her older brother John. Dad met another woman, one who liked to party and they had parties at Jade's house every weekend. One night, one of Dad's friends appeared in Jade's bedroom. He had always been a little too friendly for Jade's comfort. Follow along with Jade as she travels on her journey to escape from that horrible life and makes a new life for herself. This story has adventure, abuse, religion and even love in it. The difference a life can be when strangers take a young girl into their hearts and home.

The author, Tekoa Manning did a good job writing this story. I feel she captured the way of life from way back when very well along with actions and reaction. The plot is excellent with so many different turns in this story. It has a little too much religion in it for my taste, but still a very good book. The narrator, Felisha Caldeira did a good job delivering this story to us too with her different voices and emotions. I feel she did an excellent job with dad's voice and emotions! Definitely a 5 star read!
